Ruger Service Six

I was very fond of the Six Series having several Security Sixes, a Service Six, and a Speed Six. All we're first rate and if you'll forgive the pun, very servicable revolvers.

Both of mine

If you've got a .38, I vote for the gunsmith route. I paid $60 apiece to convert my two .38s. I've stopped shooting the one so often because someone always offers to buy it. Usually it starts off as a joke, then gets more serious. For their weight and size, they're perfect for camping, hiking and fishing. They're powerful, stout and easy to carry, unlike some of the ones with underlugs on the barrels. Ruger ought to be working on producing smaller, lighter .357s. I sold one of my Security-Sixes early on because I bought what some idiot gunwriter said about the heavy barrel model being better. It actually was about the same and was no greater or lesser accuracy-wise. Hype sells. Now I wish I'd kept my regular barrel. It was a few ounces lighter.

The Ruger Security-Six also was used in the end of the movie, The Terminator. (Why Sarah Connor would be driving around with an unloaded Security-Six on her lap is beyond me.)

Yesterday I bought this Police Service Six. I've had both Security and Speed Sixes many moons ago. They seem to be getting harder to find. Maybe cause they only made the "six" models from '72-'88. Looks lke it was made in '85. I got the gun for $375 inc. tax, which seems to be pretty reasonable considering it's great condition.
I bought my first DA revolver in 30 years two weeks ago. I was looking at three older S&W's at a LGS when I saw a Stainless Police Service Six tucked in the back of the cabinet. It didn't take long to make up my mind that it must come home with me. I'd been contemplating getting a stout woods gun for a couple months and now I have one. $440 out the door.

While looking up Tyler t-grips for this gun on Gunbroker I ran across a nice set of Herritt stocks (pictures coming). Now I need to find a decent holster.

These grips look huge... May look for T-grip after all.

Good pick! I typically put Pachmayr grips on my Ruger Sixes. Never cared much for the factory wood grips; just weren't a good fit for my smaller size hand.
