I am picking up a new to me Single six tomorrow that was made in 1956. It has the flat gate and from what I understand "XR3" frames.
In looking for new grips there is now a "New XR3" frame from the newest Vaqueros. Will the grips for the "New XR3" fit the old "XR3"?

Also anyone got any suggestions for a cowboy style holster? Everything I am finding is either just plain leather, or way over the top. I would like something in between.

The "new XR3" is the new steel version of the old XR3 that has been standard on all non-Bisley flat-top Blackhawks starting with the 2005 50th anniversary .357 Blackhawk and also the New Vaquero. The grips are the same profile and can be modified to fit the old guns. The new grips do not have the internal bevel at the top but that can be added with a file. You also have to knock out the locator pin and drill a new corresponding hole in the grip panels.

Or you can just get grips made for the original XR3.

Good advice here from CraigC. My Single Six was a gift from a friend of mine. The original grips had broken and the no-name replacement grips he bought for it were poorly fitted and finished. I started to look around at the local gun shows and finally found an original factory pair on the table of a Ruger collector. Think I paid around $40 for them and they were well worth it. Went on perfectly without any extra fitting and look great.
