What’s a acceptable cylinder gap for a Ruger Security Six?

I was testing some warm, Max Published .357 and there was some really big flame coming from the gap. My chrono ran out of battery so I don’t know the speed.

load data:

6.3 grain of Universal
158 grain Berry Flat Point
SPPM

6.4 grns of Universal and a 158grn plated bullet (Xtreme) has been my 357 plinking load for years now.
I don't have my notes handy, I moved recently, hate moving, lots of stuff still packed away.
If I recall correctly my chrony clocked those at around 1100fps from a 4in Service Six.
I've shot 10,000 plus of those rounds from many 357's, I don't ever recall a huge blast/flame from any of them.
Certainly not compared to 296/H110.

Just make sure none of your digits are too far forward and you will be OK. Otherwise it's going to involve blood and pain. Many, many years ago I learned my lesson by not paying attention and got my finger scorched a little by a single six revolver. Really no damage but it tought me to pay attention to how I placed my left hand.
Yeah, the current trend of crawling the support hand really far forward, as the current high speed/low drag guys do, can have bad consequences if shooting a revolver.
Sometimes a load is “flamy”, its just part of the revolver experience.
My Colt Open Top replica, even with nothing but full charge wadcutters, puts up an entertaining flash as a .38 Spl.

Hmm. That doesn't look like it should be a problem, though the shooters left index looks a little dirty. Even a Chiappa bottom chamber revo doesn't bite me, though it does have a clever deflector built into the frame. My alloy frame Smith revos have a steel guard above the cylinder gap, to prevent flame cutting.

It's pretty much the grip I use. No hot fingers with it. The pictured hands are much larger than mine or that is a tiny Ruger. I'm going to say it is lighting and not a dirty finger to be nice. :)

Thanks. So it was pretty flashy then. Shooting .357 max loaded 125 gr indoors is a real blast in all ways
was not like shooting .38 HBWC!

But I like the load, recoil was mid to low. .357 is a beast round! btw… New to .357 & .38

You got me curious and I checked mine. .005 slipped in easy, .006 was a little tight, and .007 wouldn't go.

I haven't shot mine recently; have to rectify that! .38/.357 is one of my favorites to load.

Most people these days have only shot Automatics. Different way of doing things. Hell, give 'em a Luger and they become confused too.
