Ruger SR1911, Springfield Armory Loaded

Moreisless, the deals I've seen on the Loaded have been popping up on slickguns from various sellers. I know Bud's has some good deals from time to time.

For the record, I didn't state it had to be a custom pistol. What I said was, "I haven't heard many positive reviews of the SR from guys who really know how to build a 1911". That simply meant what it said. There were others in the same price range that came recommended, but the Ruger SR1911 wasn't one of them based on the samples available at that time. If things have gotten better, that may be. I only was in the market for that pistol for about 6 months.

I'm also not stating you have to buy a full blown custom. I sure haven't. I respect the choice if you do. I will ask anyone who currently owns an SR1911, how tight is the barrel fit at the muzzle and with the slide forward, can you push the chamber down towards the frame? As I said, I handled 6-7 of them as different shops got them in calling my name on the waiting list and they ALL exhibited the same barrel fit issues. I would have lived with the bushing fit but being able to near push the barrel out of lockup with the slide fully forward isn't an acceptable situation. I would have bought one on the spot if one didn't show a problem. I ended up with a different brand after that. I also wasn't blown away with the trigger, especially since there is no FP safety. It was no better than most all other FP safety equipped 1911s. While easily changed to a different trigger, it still was a big draw that didn't quite pan out how I had hoped. The SR1911 on paper was the 1911 I had been hoping for. The first 8-9 months of production (didn't see any the first few months after release) were shaky at best. Hopefully things have gotten better as I do want that pistol and Ruger to do well.

No issues with barrel fittament or trigger on mine. Are the tolerances super tight? No, and I wouldn't expect them to be at this price level.

Can't speak for the Springer, but I've never had an issue with my SR1911. It's been nothing but reliable.

That is good to hear. I was disappointed that the Taurus PT1911 I was looking to upgrade from was better fit than the ones I handled. On paper the SR1911 was the gun I wanted. If they are holding QC to better standards today it should be a quite decent pistol. Ruger has the recipe for a winner with that gun, it's just a matter of how well they execute.

Don't know about the Springfield, but I inspected 3 SR1911's and picked the one with the tightest barrel lockup of the 3. The bushing on the muzzle is plenty tight, so much so that when I rotated it to remove it for the initial disassembly it scored the last ⅜ of an inch of the outside of the barrel.

It has not failed to eject a single empty, but will not eject a loaded round. From others on the board, I have determined to slowly file back the ejector until a loaded round will clear. It *almost* makes it out the ejection port, but not quite.

The trigger and sights are really nice.

I like mine, but I didn't expect Les Baer quality at the price point, so I would say overall it is a good value. Heck I haven't bought an American made firearm in the last 15 years I didn't have to send back to the factory for some sort of QC issue, and so I have come to expect it.

I'm no 1911 expert myself but my full size SR has ran perfect thus far with everything I've thrown down the tube. I have less than $600 in the pistol and am very happy with it.

I'd go with a Colt. I've had nothing but good luck with every Colt I've owned.
Not with other brands I've tried.

Loaded is just that, it has all the extra features that the Ruger is missing.

Oddly, I have yet to have a quality control issue with any gun in have bought, ever. Maybe I am lucky, or maybe I am just overlooking something.

Kimber Custom II. Thier about the same price as a Springfield Loaded.
