s&w 15-3 property of sacramento sheriff

I've got a 15-3 that's stamped property of Sacramento sheriff but it has a 2" instead 4". Is this a rebarrel or a special order?

Probably orginial.

The Model 15-2 was first offered with a 2" heavy barrel in 1962.

The 15-3 was introduced in 1967 and a 2" continued to be offered.

rc you are correct it was offered just never seen a Sacramento marked gun in 2"

The 2 inch was normally reserved for detectives and the upper echelons, 4 inch for the guys on the street.
