S&W 65-5 Stainless Pre-Lock Love

I just missed out by one day on a 3” Model 10 .38. I saw it online as a new listing on the consignment page of a chain gun store Sunday evening, I drove an hour in traffic to beat the store opening Monday, and as soon as I walked in it was already sold. Asking price was $599.00. (Store didn’t take the page down after it had sold on Sunday. :()

Oh well, early bird gets the worm. I bought a case of 9mm for $150 to make the trip worth something. Not a steal, but in Ca that’s not bad. :)

Hopefully the 65 is a rare one.

Stay safe.
Don't see those prices in my neck of the woods!

Kinda what I figured: a 3" LS. Either of those would add a premium. Others would have to chime in whether it's worth $1,350, but my guess is $1,200 wouldn't be too far off if it's in good shape and passes inspection.

very good shape, timing in on, recoil shield has no marks.

it’s been there for a while. What would you guys offer?

a few other guns they had. Looks like the good stuff been pick thought.

I’m still leaning towards this baby: what you folks think. Some Flitz will shine it right up

It's a rare version so it's worth more. Not worth anywhere near that much to me. Looking online I see on sold on Proxibid in January for $600 but it had rubber stocks. I see others closer to the $1,000+ range. Unless you're looking for that special variant I'd pass.

I appreciate it ! off to the next smith

Not everything pre-lock is always the best or good. Sometimes the added nomenclature of a dash one , two, and so on is because modifications were made to make the gun better , and sometimes that may not be the case.

I salute you for researching and learning more on your purchases and not just drop $$$ because you have it.

Thanks man! I’m liking the older K Frame guns . Trying to look at other calibers besides .38

It’s a very clean and good looking Model 65-5 3” LS. For me, the asking $$$ is too much even in the condition it is in.

Stay safe.

As to the specific price on the Model 65, perhaps too
high but I wouldn't blame the dealer.

For years now a vicious circle has existed. Buyers
and collectors of S&W revolvers have shunned and
denounced the company's latest revolver offerings.
This despite their performances being quite good.

A de facto boycott has occurred and even new
perspective buyers join in the chorus of not buying
the newer products.

Dealers have seen this and jacked up prices over and
over again on the older guns. And buyers have groused
over the prices. But they eventually pay up.

As some sages on another forum remarked, "You didn't
pay too much. You merely bought too early."

I would say, I’m a bit different. I like old stuff and history of things, always have. I also like hand workmanship and the craft of skills nobody want to learn anymore, Bluing… I’m calling you. I’m 44 now and I’m not the only one. I have ZERO issue with current S&W (except X Frames) they just don’t do anything for me. The guns I like have Cool Names like: Combat Magnum, Lady Smith, Chief Special, M&P!, The Jet!, Hand Ejector!,

AMERICA AT it’s BEST!

Officer Match, Officer Target! Love you too Old Colt!!!

Trooper, Bankers Special, Commando, Victory Model, New Frontier, Undercoverette, Pocket Target, Outdoorsman, Official Police, Lawman, Sentinal, Courier, Princess, Air Marshall, Centennial....:)

And thats intentionally leaving out the Snake guns, lol.

The Pocket Target was a .22 Charter Arms model from the '60s. Ive only ever seen 2 in the flesh and shoulda bought em both.....

That M36 is just a 3" Nickel Chiefs Special. The Target models had adjustable sights and they are pretty rare.
