What other models of S&W will interchange mags with a 6946, and who's got the best price on OEM mags?

Coincidentally, I have a 6946, even with night sights. I am unable to achieve more than a rough "center of mass" kind of accuracy with its DAO trigger, although it has a short smooth stroke and a shorter reach than the DA/SA model when it is in DA mode. I should do better than that. It does function perfectly. :) But I digress.

Mags are the same for all "Third Generation" (69XX) models, and all "second generation" (X69) models. Mags from a 59 series can also be used but will stick out of the grip.

Mine was used and had no magazines (at a discounted price). I used one of the aforementioned 59 mags the vendor had on hand to function check it, as these have magazine safeties, as well as the slide having to be cycled to reset the hammer. Surprisingly, I had a hard time finding factory mags, checking with several online retailers and calling four or five large local gun shops. I finally got one 10-round (proper capacity is 12) from Sportsman's Warehouse at a discount ($20), one from Smith & Wesson themselves ($41!) and finally two from a gun show vendor for $35 each. These guns are not at all uncommon.

Do you have any pics of the 59-series mags in a 69- series pistol? I wouldn't mind buying extra 59- mags if they are accdeptable for range use...

Sorry, neither any such mags, nor a camera. I didn't want the one mag (a 10-round 59) the vendor had and told them to keep it.

Something else to think about - at your discretion - is purchasing (if available) or fashioning a filler/spacer for 59 mags, both to act as a travel stop and giving something more to wrap your hand around.

Excellent - thanks for the referral.

I shot my new2me 6946 today for the first time, and really enjoyed it. Slow fire (one shot per second) offhand at seven yards kept everything in the X ring and doubletaps widened the group up into the nine-ring a bit and started a second cloverleaf about 2" below the first. I'm not a particularly accomplished pistolero, so this was a very pleasing performance. I didn't find the DAO to be obnoxious or hard to contend with; no stacking or other bad behavior.

For me, the first place I look for mags is CDNN. For popular guns, they generally have new or used. I just ordered some for my 4006. brand new factory mags for $20...

In my quest for magazines (roughly a month ago) I tried CDNN, Midway, Cheaper than Dirt, Ivanhoe Outlet and Mec-Gar. All were either backordered (Midway still is) or not shown at all.

Summit Gun Broker has 'em in stock for $18/each. I ordered seven, and he has ten or so left.

Get 'em while you can.
