S&W J Frames

I only have one revolver and it is a J-frame, model 642.

Hogue Tamer grip. Cartridges are Black Hills Honeybadger, Hornady Hollow Point, Norma FMJ and Winchester FMJ.

I’ve got a 642. I’m still an LCP carry guy due to its thinner size and extra 3 rounds with a 7 round mag. Still shooting even lightly loaded 380s hurts and cases are a menace to chase . I shoot the 642 every time I go out . It’d a pleasure to shoot light loads in an i find I can shoot it as good or better than the LCP way back to 100’. Once it’s broken in and you learn how to Stage the trigger it shoots very nicely .
I highly recommend these simpler easier to deal with revolver types for folks who don’t shoot much or aren’t comfortable with automatics. All you need to know is pull hard enough on that bang lever using your booger hooker and it works. That heavy trigger is your friend in these cases and there is no safety to forget about.

I like J frames too! Top to bottom, left to right:
442, no lock 638, 637
37 Flat latch, 317, 36, 60-15
34, 36 Flat latch, 60

A bit more info: As you may have noticed I'm not grip specific although I really like the Herrets on the 36 and the Pachmayrs on the 37. But the old Bianchis on my 60 are my favorite since they have been on there for close to as long as I've owned it, since the mid 70s, and it spent decades as my EDC. I like those targets on the 3" 36 as well. The 637 is my wifes favorite so it sports a set of CT stocks, she likes the lazer! All get used a bit but some far more than others. I don't think I've shot the 442 very much. I like it and it drops in a pocket easily, but it isn't very sexy! I have lots of pocket time with the 317 as it accompanies me often on my outback dog walks. There are a few others out there that will join these if the opportunity at the right price comes along. Did I mention I'm cheap?:p

I too like J-Frame S&W's,,,
It's not that I collect them per se,,,
But I have managed to gather up five for myself.

I really enjoy owning matched sets of center fire/rimfire pairs,,,
They don't always match perfectly but close is good enough for me.

This is Velda and Velma,,,
Velda (Mike Hammer's secretary),,,
Is a round butt Model 36 in .38 Special.
Velma (my lovely sister) is a square butt 34 in .22 LR.

This is a terrible picture of Dakota and Elle (the Fanning sisters),,,
A very clean nickle plated Model 36 with a 3" barrel,,,
A pristine nickle plated Model 34 with 4" barrel.

The Model 34 belonged to my best friend and drinking buddy,,,
It was her birthday gift for her 11th or 12th birthday,.

Her father took her to a gun store and told her,,,
She could pick any .22 pistol they had.

I once commented to her about the good choice she had made,,,
She grew up around guns and started shooting when she was a small child.

I asked her what she was thinking about when she picked it,,,
Her reply was, "It was shiny."

When she passed away I offered to buy it from her Brother,,,
He just handed it to me and said "Give it a good home."

The last J-Frame is a venerable war horse that I named Libby,,,
After Libby Thompson or "Squirrel Tooth Alice" as she was also known.

This gun had been "rode hard and put up wet" so to speak,,,
That's the reason I named her after a real old west "Soiled Dove".

When I saw her sitting in the case at The Evil Pawn Shop,,,
She was dented, scratched, and sporting "Mother of Toilet Seat" plastic pearl grips.

But the action was very tight and the trigger was great,,,
The bore was the only clean thing about her,,,
So for $299.95 I couldn't pass her up.

I spent about one DVD of time rubbing out most of the small scratches with steel wool,,,
Then I flushed her insides out with a lot of good spray cleaner/lube,,,
Lastly I wiped her dry and cleaned her with rubbing alcohol,,,
Then I applied several doses of cold blue.

She still ain't pretty,,,
But she's no longer ugly,,,
And, she functions perfectly.

I found a cheap ($19.95) pair of laminate grips on-line,,,
Now I have a very serviceable fiery-arm.

Libby lives under the arm cushion of my TV watching recliner,,,
I feel well armed knowing she's within hand reach.

That's all the J-Frames I own,,,
I like 'em. :)

I forgot that I actually own a 6th J-Frame S&W.

Several years back my OCD took over completely,,,
I spent a bucket of money assembling a "Set" of S&W Revolvers.

All Four frame sizes,,,
All four major cartridges,,,
All soulless,,, eerr stainless steel

I named them all after "Witchey Women"

Jezebel: Model 629 - N-Frame in .44 Mag,,,
Brighid: Model 686 L-Frame in .357 Magnum,,,
Morgana: Model 67 K-Frame in .38 Special,,,
Lilith: Model 63 J-Frame in .22 LR.

Lilith is the bottom right gun.

I bought it sight-unseen from an auction at Gunbroker,,,
I didn't notice until I had it home and in my hand,,,
That it sported those wonderful target grips.

Lilith is too nice a gun to go forgotten in this thread.

Got three of them. Our carry guns, a Model 60 and a Model 36 look like everyone else’s 60 and 36. Which is not a bad thing of course. The oddball is this 3” 60-3 chambered in .38 Special, rather than .357 Magnum like so many of its 1990s brethren. It also has target hammer and target trigger and adjustable target sights, which are not terribly common on a 60. It’s the only S&W I have lettered. Turns out it was one of a special order of 145 revolvers. Kinda cool and fun to play with.

Okay…I am envious. :D
That’s a cool model 60.

Do like that 3" lugged barrel M60; never saw one before, J-bar.
As regards the 4" M63; wrote an NRA grant for out Club for our handgun safety class, and bought 6 of them. Had one myself, and knew what great guns they were; learned to shoot double action with it. It currently wears the oversize target grips.
We used them for years, until changing times brought the demand for autoloaders; we bought 6 Ruger .22 Autos, and sold 4 of the 63s to the members.
Bought a 3" 317 from a buddy; like the fiberoptic front sight, but replaced the v rear leaf with a notch.
Have some Centennials, too, made of various things. A great platform!
