I want to preface this by saying that I have not had the infamous early rust issues with this gun, and that I have owned two M&Ps and love the model.

That being said, the M&P 9c I've had for all of two weeks is already exhibiting noticeable holster wear. As in, there is no longer any finish along the edges of the slide just in front of the ejection port.

Should I gripe to S&W about this?

If the M&P to which you refer is their semiautomatic, the charcoal gray exterior finish is claimed to be Melonite®, a proprietary solution nitride. Since this process [should have] diffused the dark finish into the base metal more than .001 inch, the diffusion layer being HRC 70s on the surface and gradually becoming softer as it blends with softer base metal, there should be no deterioration of surface finish - excluding "polishing" effect - for a long, long, long, LONG time.

Assuming you are the original owner, and the pistol was bought recently, if deterioration is present, this is beyond your responsibility.

Hope this helps.

I would. Unless you're lining your holster with skateboard tape, that's abnormal.

See, that's the funny thing. My M&P .40 also exhibited this problem, but at least in that case, the wear wasn't noticeable for nearly a year. This one only lasted two weeks.

^^^ What Mike said. ^^^

I carried my M&P9c for two years almost daily in a kydex holster. I'm a big boy, so it saw its fair share of sweat. Was cleaned maybe once a month. And the finish looked new when I finally sold it last month.

What you are experiencing is abnormal. Call up Smith. They are good folks to deal with, and most likely will send you a prepaid shipping label so they can inspect your gun.

Best of luck.

John

I have carried my new 9c in a Galco summer comfort IWB holster for about a month and havent seen any wear yet. I would give S&W a call. I have always been happy with their customer service in the past.
