About five years ago I was in a local LGS and looking at a nice 4" 686. I had walked in the door actually looking for an N frame. I didn't see any in the display case and spied the 686. After checking the action and looking it over, I decided to go with it. While starting the paperwork, I mentioned to the salesman that I came in kind of looking for a N frame. "I got a model 4" 28 that we haven't put out yet because it needs to be cleaned up." I looked it over and other than a little dirty, it was in fine shape and I already had an L frame (model 581). And the price was same as the 686. $365 out the door. I haven't seen that kind of a deal on a 686 since. The 28-2 is a great range/field revolver. Will handle almost any .357 load and built solid. Either way you go, both sound pretty good.
