S&W Shield vs Glock 26 (CCW)?

I love my Glock 26 gen 4. Alot. I like the Shield too, I think both are good choices you cant really go wrong with either.

The one thing I would put the 26 over the Shield is that I can utilize the 17 round G17 magazine or the 15 round G19 magazine. I added a Taran Tactical +6 base pad to my G26 mag's so I have 16+1 and the same grip size as G19 now.

I can't speak for the Shield but I can for the the G26... I carry mine OTWB and have had no issues. I've never carried the G26 ITWB so I can't comment on that.

I have both and purchased the Shield with the hopes of pocket carry. For some reason in the pocket the Shield turns and the butt pokes out towards the front of my jeans which prints noticeably. In the same holster the Glock lies flat. As a result, the Shield is best in an ankle or IWB holster. That being said, for me the Shield does not offer any additional concealment over the Glock. Good luck with your purchase.

I'm very close to picking up a .40 Shield. I used to have a g26, but I couldn't warm up to it.

I have a few compact 9s as well as a couple pocket .380s. I'm thinking a pocket rocket in .40 would bridge the gap when I can carry something bigger than my .380 but can't hide a double stacked 9mm.

If I'm going go bigger than a .380 but am going to lose the capacity of the 9mm, I'm going to pack a gun with a bit more thump like the .40.

I own both. I prefer to carry the Shield. It's thinner, and lighter. I don't even know I'm carrying it. The G26 is a bit heavier, I know it's there, and it's less comfortable. Depending on my mood, I'll carry one or the other.

I'd be shocked if she didn't like the Shield better.

Also, I always carry the +1 mags for the Shield (8 rounds).

You can't go wrong with either one.

I have owned the 26, 27, and shields in 9 & 40. I shoot the glocks better. But the shields carry so much more comfortably for me and I shoot them pretty well.

Before I had a shield and only had a 26 and an LCP, I found myself leaving the 26 at home and throwing the LCP in my pocket. Now that I have a shield that LCP stays at home a lot more.

When I feel like carrying my 26/27 nowadays, I usually just throw on my 19 because it carries the same as the 26/27 for me.

I've carried both and currently carry the Shield. I borrowed a G26 for a period of time intending on buying it. My biggest complaint was the same as with my M&P 9c, 229, and PT145 all were just way to thick for my tastes. Then throw in the fact the baby glocks 26,29,30,27 all just feel strange to me (love he g20, 19,23,21) and they poor glock never had a chance.

My journey to the Shield took about 9 months of research and laying my hands on oodles of different 9's looking for that "perfect" carry pistol. Is the shield perfect, not hardly. IMHO it's a little large and heavy, but being thin makes up for those two issues. It's large enough to hit accurately out to 25 yards yet small enough to conceal OWB easily. Mine has been dead solid perfect without one malfunction in over 3500 rounds so far. The trigger is pretty darned good and I improved it without parts with a few minutes on the work sharp polishing the trigger bar and striker face.

I like that it's a full 4 finger grip length, makes hitting the 100yd gong a lot easier IMHO. Between the Shield and my LCP I never have to bother looking for a conceal carry pistol again. I can now concentrate on full sized fun guns...the hunt is over. Next up a G40, then a CZ75....

The reason I'm currently asking this question is because I'm trying to find a gun that my better half would be likely to carry for CCW

SHE should be making that choice,,,,,,,,,,,,, ;)

My wife likes shooting both my G26 and my P7, but those were her decisions, not mine.
