S&W should stamp the Mt Gun moniker on the 329 PD

Frulk, Sounds like you have your needs and wants well sorted out. The 329 is emminently packable. I shot one cylinder full of factory 240 JSPs out of a 329 once, hit what I was aiming at 6 times, handed it back and told my friend that I didn't want to shoot it again. Ever. I like to shoot my guns and I decided at that point that the steel 4 inch Mountain Gun was as lightweight a .44 mag as I would enjoy. Ironically I find the 3 inch 360 M&P airweight .357 tolerable and super packable... It is a lot smaller and lighter than the 329 ....but of course it is not a .44 mag.

I agree with my 629 Mountain Gun being my minimum limit for .44 magnum loads as well. I just don’t enjoy being smacked across the palm with a hammer handle when I pull the trigger, and the lightweights like the 329 or even the ultra lightweight J-frame .357’s just hit me the wrong way.

Gimme some .44 Specials if you’re handing me a 329 to shoot .

I really wanted to like the 329PD but mine spun the cylinder under recoil, so I didn’t trust it.

That won't happen because it does not meet their definition of a MG. You have come up with your own definition, which is fine, but the characteristics which S&W chose for their MG are not found in the 329PD.

There was a "Mountain Gun" and a similar "Mountain Revolver". They are lighter weight versions of pre-existing steel revolvers. Unlike the original models that they were derived from, the MG's will have pencil barrels, half lug ejector shrouds, black front and rear sights, and chamfered cylinders. These are the characteristics S&W has set out for their Mountain Guns in both N and L frame.

And the Mountain Revolvers of 1989 had real engraved wording not lazer engraved and the build and finish seem to be head and shoulders above the latter Mountain Guns I've handled.
