A guy at work said he might buy one of these for home defense. He apparently won't even do much at a range other than some familiarization. Price is an issue, too,in his consideration of this one.

I loooked at some review info on the web and it seems like it is an ok gun with a heavy trigger.

Since the prospective buyer's requirements are so limited,I didn't look too much into it. I have mentioned that he might want something in a larger caliber since it will be a defense-only weapon. He seems to be stuck on the idea of 9mm.

Anyone want to give comment on this weapon?

I've had the Sigma 40V for several years and I have shot countless commercial and my own reloads through it without a single failure.

It's very reasonably accurate and I would not hesitate recommending someone getting one.

You are going to hear from both sides of the fence on this one....just like you would if you asked advice on a .......hard to say the word....gosh it hurts...........Glock.

They seem like decent guns. The only consistant complaint I hear is that the trigger is too heavy. I have not taken the time to shoot one myself but is 8 pounds really that much more then say Glock's 5.5 pounds? Does 2.5 pounds really make a huge difference?

Is the trigger pull of the Sigma comparable to the M&P autopistols? If so I would find it to be just fine, the M&Ps have a very comfortable trigger pull. It's not to much and not too little.

Under the circumstances it should be perfect. It is $200 less than, say, a M&P or Glock but is still a quality handgun, definitely a step above a "pot metal" gun.

Nine-millimeter practice ammo costs, on the average, 20% less than .40 and a good 50% less than .45, a consideration for someone already on a budget. The light recoil makes it easier to shoot than either, also a consideration for the non-enthusiast who is not going to practice a lot. And with jacketed hollowpoints it is effective enough.

The Sigma is a great budget gun. I work for a large dealer in the Southeast that sells hundreds of them every year. The Sigmas just plain work - they never come back for service. The ergos are good, and the price is right. As already stated, the heavy trigger pull is the only issue.

The Lone Haranguer has already stated all the reasons to get one in 9mm. October 1st S&W re-starts the Sigma extra mags or cash back (buyer choice) mail in rebate program. For the stated use and price range a Sigma will be tough to beat.

S&W also has the rebates or free magazine offers on once again-check their website for info.

SW9V is a Good gun for the money also consider the Sig P6

I carry the Glock 22 for work, and my primary HD is a 12 ga but I keep a sigma 9V in a safe near my reloading gear in the garage.

The ergos are good, a hogue slip over grip makes for a excellent fit for me and I have found the best results come from Winchester Super Clean NT ammo.

Some people complain about the heavy trigger while others will argue a heavy trigger in an HD gun is actually desirable.

I find mine shoots fine for me at ranges of 10 yds or less but falls away drasticly past that.

Your mileage may vary.

If you want a gun with Glock like qualities for 1/2 the Glock price the sigma is a decent gun. For about the the same price, the Sig Sauer P6 is worth considering also.

If he gets one- make sure it is a Sigma VE and not one of the old "Glock-lawsuit" sigmas. I had a Sigma9VE and it was acceptable for what I used it for. Not my favorite gun- the mag floorplate dug into the heel of my hand, the trigger hinge was uncomfortable and the heavy trigger took getting used to.
As I said, not my favorite, but it's not a bad gun, either.
Worth $300, if you can get the S&W rebate for the extra mags and range bag or whatever they are throwing out there.
