I'm curious about opinions on the two different speed loaders. I'm going to be carrying a Charter Arms Undercover during the summer, and I certainly want to have more than 5 shots.

Any issues with the Safariland loaders? In general, I tend to prefer simplicity -- so not having to twist a knob to reload in a stressful situation seems like a good thing. Any problems with rounds staying seated in the loader while being carried? Or any advantages to the HKS style?

Thanks!!

I like Safariland much better than HKS. The push to release Safariland Comp Series is much faster and requires less fine manual dexterity to operate in a stressful situation. I have used the Comp I's with my J-frame and my M29 and I use the Comp III's in competition with my Model 10.

Moonclips are my preference but the Safariland speed-loaders are my choice for my revolvers not yet cut for moonclips.

Does safari land make an 8 round 357/38 speed loader?
I don't believe they do.

Look at Speed-beez they make a push to release speed loader for the 627/327/R8. It uses a very different mechanism but it's push to release.

That said, all those guns are cut for moonclips. Why not use those? Moonclips rule!

I like Safariland for serious use and speed.

HKS for range use and casual use as they are easy to load up.

They are both like $10. Buy one of each. You won't know until you try both on a specific revolver. For example, my Smith does not like Safariland but my Dan Wesson of the same frame size and cylinder does. It depends on the grip and cylinder release shape/location sometimes.

They are a circular coil spring design similar to the old Dade. Easy to fill, straight push to load, not real secure.

Well, I ordered a couple of the Safariland to compare to the HKS. The first thing I found out is that the Safariland won't work on the Charter Arms Undercover with the shrouded hammer. It comes with the CA Compact Rubber grips, and you can't get the Safariland loader in far enough to depress the plunger to release the rounds!

The HKS still gets hung up a little, but the rounds are more than halfway in so you can still release them and they drop right into place. (And I'm not eager to take an Exacto to the grips on my brand new gun...maybe in the future!)

Although I wasn't too keen on the loading process for the Safariland, I did like that they had a smaller profile - whcih would have made carrying them easier.

Oh, well - live and learn!!

HKS is easier to load the loader. Safariland takes some practice to get that part down, but is easier to load the gun.
