Safe gun storage in rented space?

As for closet doors in apartments, they are pretty much made out of cardboard - you do not even need tools to get one open because you can punch and kick right through one.

Exactly my point. Putting a big-buck lock on a closet door is like putting a padlock on a shoebox.

Of course, any lock will be a deterrent to most young kids.

i got a metal cabinet that has space for 8 long guns and a couple of handguns and ammo from cabela's for 80$

Obviously, secure your weapons as best you can in a space you can't or don't want ot modify. You got some great suggestions from folks here.

My bit of advice is to keep your collection under wraps as much as possible. Easier to do with fewer weapons and less gear of course, but the fewer signs and signals that telegraph to others about the weapons that might be in your place--the better.

So be creative, and *maybe* consider off-site storage for weapons you don't need 24/7 access to.

One other thing I just thought of, and this is really good advice for any gun owner. Keep an accurate record of all your firearms. Serial numbers, date of purchase, brief description, approx. value, and a digital picture. In the unfortunate event that all your security efforts fail you, it will help dramatically with insurance claims and police reports.
