some points of interest.
-.223 any less reliable in the AK's (natively 7.62x39) action?
-.223, the more accurate version? (barrel thickness)
-Reloading easier/cheaper in any given caliber? (AFAIK 7.62 Saiga is .3105 bore)
-Converted Saiga .223's mags less sturdy/reliable as common 7.62x39?
-.223/5.56x45 the better SHTF caliber? (think availability)
-7.62x39 ammo choice less 'sensitive' (as the .223 MUST expand .087 to equal effectivness) choosing the wrong bullet for the wrong range could result in a mere .223 hole.
-Recoil, noticable or moot?
-Saiga chews up brass casings?

1/ no
2/ no- for factory ammo, the 223 in winny 45 grainers, black hills blue box
plane jane 55 grainers, regular old remmy/umc 55 grainers. all will stack em up.
HOWEVER, the silver bear hollow point , in 762x39, is damn, DAMN accurate,
and when I go hog shooting with a friend, I hand over the 223, as i know
the 762 , will put the bullet, right where I want it to go, to make 'em real
sick , real fast.
3/ E. german Weiger mags, made exactly the same for both, and easy to convert.
4/ 223 in softpoint, will work just fine. I find no probs getting either ammo.
but I will say, 762 ammo is cheaper , now and proly forever. Even 3 years ago, when Academy sold both by the boat load, 223 was 3.99, and 762
was 2.99 per box.
5/ recoil is no issue with either, but just for a little more comfort, and less clanging, I put in some black jack buffers, harder types not the softer ones.
simple, easy, and cheap.
6/ someone has made a bolt handle thingy, to help with the brass eating,
plus if it really bothers you, someone has also made a safety, with a bit cut out of the top of it, and you can dremel your ejection port , in the rear area,
and fit a hard rubber piece to fit around the edge of it.

About 4 years ago, I had all 3 cals, when you could buy them for 229, sold them all off. then about 1 year before Obama won the dem nom, I bought them back again. I have a homeade steel trough built rifle size; I soaked them for a week, in Sweetshooters first, then another week in synthetic motor oil, finally, I did a molyfusion job or the bores. They look slick and shiny, better than new. I have dudes come up to me at the range, and offer 600 bucks on the spot, as you just look at them, do a vulcan mind meld, and now they self clean, just by stareing hard enough. Never shall they leave my eyesight again. In case you are wondering, trough is 36"L x 5"H x 6"W. This should accomodate most, if not all, even weirdest shaped semi autos. cost me about 100 bucks, to have made, and worth every single penny.

to Darth; that is a very serious group my man, that will make varmints real sick, real fast!
