Hi all, thought I'd share a few pictures of my latest buy, got this rifle earlier this week.
It is a Savage 10 FP in .308w, 1/10 twist, with 26" heavy barrel, accu trigger is adjustable, sweet trigger pull.

Installed a Bushnell Elite 3200, 10x40 mil-dot reticle, have tried various ammo, all has stayed with in 1" moa, best group was with 168gr,managed .5" moa at a 100 yards.
I have another scope base coming monday via UPS, also purchased 500rds of various ammo, also today at fun show, I got a complete reloading set up by RCBS.

Once I start, will be able to tailor load this rifle, Im mainly into AR15, have four of them in different configurations.

Any how, this new long range rifle is something new, have done alot of research, my instinct had me to choose this over the FN and Rem 700.

Out of the box accuracy with Savages is hard to beat, many features on the bolt gun, that would have cost much more with other rifles.

Also for those whom own the same rifle, insight is appreacited.

Also, for those who reload .308, any reload data for long range .308s is appreciated, Im looking to stick with 168gr and looking to try some 175gr SMK.

Thanks.

parents took the photos so they're not the greatest. haven't even been able to hold the finish product yet, stock was delivered a week after I returned to Iraq from leave.

Thanks for the replies, have used Brownell bake on finish with great results, this rifle want be babied to much, so I went with your basic Krylon camo paint, easy to work with and dry fast, also easily touched up, when ever needed.

The rifle weighs under 12lbs, dont recall exact weight off hand.

TG what kind of stock is that?

I basically want to make a copy of your gun, YOU SICK!!! :neener: Something else to spend $$$ I don't have on, O well. That's 1 SEXY Rifle.

I recently handled one in a shop and the bolt was "wobbily" to say the best, any problems like that on yours?

Hi, it is a Choate ultimate varmint stock, moderate amount bolt wobble, bout like any other bolt action rifle.

Resemble bolt action used in surplus rifles, made to handle roughest field condition and dirtiest powder.

Deadly accurate, best of both worlds.

I love mine, my best reloads are either a 168gr nosler hpbt over 45.5gr of varget with a WLR primer or a 175gr SMK over 45gr varget, I seat them to be just a hair off of the rifling, can't quite recall what that depth is (im at work now)

I have the same setup only with a different scope(SS10x42 mil-dot). Its a great gun and I really like the choate stock but its a little on the heavy side(great for bench shooting). Mine seems to like 175gr(1-10 twist likes the heavier stuff)SMK from Black Hills but will do well with 168gr as well.

Thanks for your load data, such comments is much appreciated, have seen others who owned same rifle, all seem to be very pleased. :)

For those of us, whom uses fixed powered scopes, usely dont run into Parallax Adjustment Issues, but, it does happen from time to time.

Here a insight I'd learned from others.

Just drill a hole dead center on your Butler flip up, also easier than messing with a side focus knob.

Hey good choice! I had a 3200 10x on mine too and it was a great scope, in fact I miss it now.
I found that the barrel on mine smoothed out rapidly after about 100 rounds went down range.
Our rifles have a 1-10 twist, which can stabilize 190 SMK's well, and many are using those for long range. I am amazed at the velocities the experts are getting out of the .308 with the right powders.
I am using the 175 SMK with 45gr Varget right now, with neck sized brass and its a great load. My COAL is 2.81.
Keep us posted, Im interested to hear what loads you come up with and what groups you get. I havent been able to get out much this summer because of school and moola.

BTW heres the review of mine...

The scope is a NightForce 3.5-15x50. The camo was done by CCR in Tennesse. That's the second barrel I've had on it. I shot the first one out. Many many happy rounds have been put through ol' Nady.

bullet and powder

I'd stick with the 168gr bullets, they seem to work well in my rifle, as well (Savage Model 10). I can get 150gr to group well, but I've got to push them pretty hot to get under 1 MOA at 100yd.

Varget is probably the best powder out there for .308Win. Good burn rate, no position sensitivity with even light charges due to case capacity. I have two different lots of brass, each will turn in under 1 MOA with a charge within 1/2 gr. of each other (Winchester cases get 46gr, Federals get 45.5 gr.)

I have a 24" 10FP in .308 myself. As it turns-out, I have the exact same Bushnell scope on mine, but I went with the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock instead of the Ultimate Varmint like you've got (same stock, just a slightly different forend). I love it! It's an awesome shooter!

I haven't tried reloading anything for it (yet), so I can't help much there.

Here is my SWS

Here is mine, 10FPLE2A with some lapping and cleaning up of the action.

Love it. Use federal Gold Medal Match to see what it'll do. Best .308 ammo available.

silverlance, i really didn't notice any dramatic accuracy problems at any given number of rounds. We used to shoot paper out to 600 yards and I would always collect my targets after shooting. When we went to steel, seeing actual group size was more difficult. Especially since I no longer had to walk out there and collect targets. One day when my round count hit 5000 I decided to put up a paper target at 500 yards and shoot a few groups. It was only then I realized the average groups had opened up considerably. Even though the groups were still around 1 moa, I had targets from before that averaged a good bit less. I guess "shot out" is a bit misleading.
(I don't really care that much about group size actually. As long as a shot goes reasonably close to my POA I'm pretty happy). At any rate, I knew the barrel was wearing so I ordered a new one, installed it and Nadine shoots like she used to again. I replaced the barrel at 6000 rounds though. Turned out a friend suggested trying Hornady A-Max 168's and the accuracy improved greatly. It was still shooting good when I replaced the barrel.

The nice thing about these rifles is that you can replace and headspace a barrell in about 15 minutes, on top of that you can rebarrel in most short action calibers, but if it is in any 308win based cartridge (22-250, 7mm-08, 343 win) you dont even have to change the bolt face or mag well/follower.

Thanks for the replies, in put much appreciated, just installed a new scope base & rings, brown truck drop them off earlier.

Have ammo, just need to make another range vesit here before long.

TG :)
