Savage 110 ejector issue

I just bought a used Savage 110 (pre Accutrigger) .270 Win rifle.

I took it out to shoot it last weekend and it shot pretty good (better than me) but would not eject the spent cases.

How far is the ejector supposed to protrude from the bolt face? The Ejector on mine doesn't stick out very far, but it does stick out. There is very little spring movement.

I am not really familiar with how this ejector is supposed to work.

Brownells has all the parts for pretty cheap. Are all 110s "Top-Loading"?

Mine protrudes .09" and can be pushed flush against spring tension.
