It seems to be a little off it has the bb gun style sights on it. Not sure what scope rings i can put on it to mount a scope. It has small groves for rings
22's are only as good as the ammo feed to them and what they like best. Does not matter if its a 60 years old rifle or a brand new one. If the bore is nice in your stevens then it will probably shoot well and can be a toy or used to feed the family.
I have a Stevens rifle very similar to that and it shoots very accurate. It's as accurate as any rimfire rifle I own. They are based on a very simple design that should last forever. I guess that Stevens has killed more squirrels than all my other .22's combined. It's brought down hundreds of them.
Savage makes the Rascal which generally gets good reviews from owners and magazine type people. Henry also makes a single shot boys rifle (the Mini) that is considered to be a good rifle. Marlin makes a youth model and so does Ruger but they aren't single shot.
