Fellow High Roaders - I'm looking at a Savage 93 in 17 hmr or 22 wmr for a reliable, accurate rifle to do occasional pest control and plinking. Am not looking for a benchrest gun, but would like to get something with good accuracy out to 150 yards. Local Dick's SG is offering a scoped Savage 93 for $249.98. Is this a good deal? Any experienced comments would be much appreciated. Also interested in other suggestions, new or used, where the rifle and scope together are less than $600. Would prefer to stay in the 17, 22, 204 calibers. Thanks for any comments,

I have a Savage 93 in .22 LR. It is a fine gun for the money and probably as good as it gets in that price range. If you would want to spend more money I would look at the CZ rifles.

Depends on what scope comes with it. I gave $215 for my lefty 93 a couple years back without scope.

The 93 is a good rifle but some were plagued with light strikes. Biggest problem is cheap magazines.

I love my Savage 93 in 17 HMR. I paid $220 at a LGS. Its a real tack driver out to 200 yards as long as its a calm day, Sub-Moa easy. I like it so much so I'm going sometime this week and picking up the .22lr version of it. For a scope I would go with the Mueller APV, which retails around $130. IMO you just can't go wrong with a Savage rimfire With a Mueller APV sitting on top.

I have a Savage 93 in .17HMR and it's awesome. I get good groups at 100, .5"-1.5" depending on the day. Try it with a lot of different ammo, though. Mine likes Hornady V-Max 17gr, really hates Hornady XTP 15gr and CCI 20gr.

Thanks, folks...

Really appreciate the comments on the savage. If I go for it, will probably get the 17hmr. VW - you mentioned the CZ rifles. Any experience with them? what do you like/dislike? Thanks,

I have a 93 in 22wmr with a cheap Simmons 3-9x32 scope on top . It will shoot 5 shot groups I can cover with a dime from 50 yds most of the time . LOVE the accutrigger . Not a big fan of the plastic stocks so I went with the wood stock . Great value if you ask me .

I have had the 93F 22wmr for about 2 weeks and find it to be a pretty good rifle. I have had mine suffer 2 or 3 misfires in 100 rounds, but I have also found a way to mitigate so it is not an issue. I paid $214.00 out the door for mine and put a Nikon scope on it that is equal in value to the rifle, so mine is a pretty good, moderately priced rimfire hunter that I have no regrets about buying. It is hunting accurate out past it's effective range, and fun to shoot out to about 175yds.

My 17 is one of my fav late season squirrel guns, but I do rememding bedding the stock. It didnt shrink group sizes much, but it did get rid of rando flyers. I love that gun.
