Has Savage ever made a true Magnum-length bolt action, as opposed to just offering their 110-series action chambered in the '30-06 length' 7mm/300WinMag Mag?
338 WinMag is still a 30-06 length (2.5" brass length, 3.2"-3.3" OAL) chambering; they just increased the diameter of the cartridge to increase powder capacity and called it a magnum. A true magnum length action will accomodate a chambering with a brass length that's 2.8" and an OAL of 3.6"-3.8".
For example, 8mm RemMag and 300H&H and 338 RemUltraMag and 375H&H brass is 2.85" in length and the SAAMI spec for OAL is 3.6". Most 30-06 (long) action receivers will not feed this, since they're designed to support a cartridge that's no greater than 3.2" in length.
When you get up into the bigger Rigbys and such, they get even fractionally longer.
I don't have a long action Savage to measure but the opening on the action on a Savage short action is only 1/16" shorter than my long action rifles made by Remington, Winchester, Ruger, or Tikka. My .308 Remington is about 3/4" shorter than my Savage .308. That is not really a bad thing but for some reason Savage does use actions where the openings and bolt throw are a good bit longer than others.
ETA - a quick 'net search didn't turn up anything other than references to the 'standard' length (long action) and the newer short actions. I'm thinking that the standard LA is what they make, and there is no specific Magnum variant.
