Savage MkII FV-SR - scope recommendations?

Today I bought a firearm I have never held or seen in person. We'll see if I have disappointed myself when it arrives next week. This is the first time I've taken a leap of faith like this.

I was looking for a bolt action pistol or rifle in 22LR to further exploit the benefits of a suppressor and came across the Savage MkII FV-SR for about the same price as just a threaded barrel for the 10/22. It has the fancy savage trigger and the barrel is fully floated... we'll see.

Any recommendations on a decent scope for this .22LR rifle?

This should be in the regular Firearms Accessories forum since it's more about the scope than the can. I've got a Savage Mk II that I run suppressed - it is super quiet. It came with a cheap Bushnell scope that works OK out to 200 yards (furthest I've shot it). Can't really help much with scope selection, sorry

You won't regret the purchase of the MKII SV SR. It does have the fully floaated and fluted heavy barrel and accutrigger. Hopefully you ordered the model with the full length scope rail. There are 2 out there, the regular and the model made for Lipseys which has the 2pc base.

I'm currently using a Redfield 3x9 40mm. Oh...and the factory stock is crap.

You won't be dissapointed with your FVSR I love mine. The only thing I don't like about it as well as some other Savage models are the flimsy synthetic stock. The first week I had mine I bought a tacticool stock (just like the TR) from Boyd's and I think it looks even better on the shorter barreled FVSR.

If you do buy the stock you will need the bottom metal from savage for the TR's, I picked up that and some extra 10rd mags while I was at it.

As far as scopes, I put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on top of mine with Burris XTR rings. I've put this combo on the FVSR, a 9317BTVS, Sig 522, and one of my AR's and have been really happy with it. The scope is clear and good in low light conditions.

I also like the bdc retical, you can go to Nikon.com's ballistic calculator and get hold over points for any caliber or bullet.

I just got two .22cans approved and I need to pick them up in the next few days so when I do I'll put some picks up.

While scouring the web today I learned there are two versions of the FVSR floating around. One is the Savage 28704 made especially for Lipsy's and the other is the now-standard 28702 made and distributed by Savage for all distributors.

I got the 28702, which is good, I think. It has the fluted barrel, and the long scope rail.

Right now, I am running a .22 Sparrow on a Walther p22. The loudest part of shooting this combination is the slide going into battery. I'm excited to see how quiet the bolt action is with the suppressor.

I'm hoping for a single 'click' followed by a slap of the bullet impact. I really like the Sparrow - it's very quiet when dry and a touch bit quieter when wet.
