Savage Stance

Pretty much looks like every other plastic fantastic on the market.

Agreed. But looking at the trigger, pins, contours, all controls, extractor, etc. Ask the internal hardware that carries over to the exterior, it's identical.

Not just "the Toyota Camry looks just like the Honda Accord" but more like "that Chevy truck and GMC truck are the same basic thing"

Honor Defense was getting sued out of business last time I checked. Kind of a bummer. I think it was a cop who dropped the gun and shot himself. I kind of liked the Honor Guard and was waiting for a second gen version. I try to support new American startup gun manufacturers even if they start a little rough.

These new little Savage 9mms may be all right..... Just kind of boring. The Mossberg isnt a bad little pistol. The Savage looks to be modular... thats good. Ported slide????? I guess thats so dust and dirt can enter the gun easier? Smart move there....looks really Savage! Single stack isnt the end of the world. No double strike capability is a big turn off for me. If they can get the street price 250 and below it will probably sell.... if it works. I might be willing to try one for $200 or so because I like modular pistols. Factory needs to offer spare parts though.

I guess they could cut the slide for an optic, thread the barrel, call it tactical super duper whatever and throw some zombie paint on it if they cant attract any movement in the market.

I apologize for the snarky tone. My son and I were at the Gun shop the other day looking and he told me everything looks the same......he is 8. I said yup! I had to let him look up the new Automags when we got home to get him excited about pistols again.
It's true, everyone is copying everyone else and the result is everything is the same. With everyone trying to sell the cheapest pistol at the highest profit margin they can they all copied the Glock design and made subtle changes. The only companies doing anything innovative or unique are Ruger and Kel Tec.

Very nioce...! But can anyone actually acquire this unicorn? :)

Name calling? heh!

Just asking for opinions...and you gave me one. thank you brother.

The only available unicorn sibling would be a L.ittle C.rappy P.istol chambered in .380?

Seems like there are always a couple on gunbroker. They are nice but kind of a pain to use. Heavy, heavy DA trigger, very heavy recoil spring, heavy and thick gun overall. Pretty harsh recoil as well. They are accurate though. Not much breaks outside magazines sometimes. They are definitely not for everyone. I just bring it up because we are kind of spoiled with all the pocket powerhouses now compared to the not that long ago. It was really the keltec p11 that kind of broke through and started this whole thing. BTW Detonics also had a pocket 380 version that I always wanted to try but could never find one.

Not a huge fan of a lot of these pocket 380s. Most of them dont hold up under moderate round counts becuase they are too lightly built. The Beretta Pico is one of the few that impressed be. I wish these manufacturers would at least go with steel subframes for the tiny pocket 380 market. Beretta is one of the few that makes the subcompacts and bugs with steel subframes. Honor guard has a steel subframe so I expect it will be the same in the savage. The Honor Guard had a lot going for it so hopefully Savage perfects it. I may take a gamble on these if the price is right.

I expect the next generations of pocket 380s will go this route as well along with double stacks. Then we will have gone full circle right back to the Grendel p10/12. Those were straight blowback though... which I kind of prefer in a pocket pistol for reliability.

There are a few doing new things but for the most part your right. I kind of like this Savage move though because I dont want to see the Honor guard get axed. I hate seeing that happen to good designs. Its kind of why I like the Sccy pistols. The continue to carry the torch for the Keltec p11 and even improve it in some cases. I always hate to see good designs get abandoned from the market. I kind of wish someone would revamp and bring back the Heritage stealth. Those were nice small pistols that were affordable for most. The larger gun manufacturers have gotten pretty lazy though.

On the upside.... 10mm has finally caught on, Legacy and retro pistols are back (python, hi-power, Sig p210 etc.) and most importantly the Automag is being made again which to me is one of the most exciting things to happen in a long time. Someone actually brings back the Bren Ten and I will be happy. Maybe some of the HK classics like the P9s and P7. HK wouldnt do it of course because they are pricks but someone else could resurect it.

What has Ruger done that was innovative in the handgun market recently?

They seem to be content going after others market share instead of growing their own. So far they have gone after Glock, Keltec, FN, Heritage/Taurus. I thought the P57 was a good move. An affordable 5.7 is a good idea....should have offered it in 7.62 and 38 super (maybe a 9mm conversion for cheap practice) but hey.. nobody said they were smart. Multi caliber P57 platform would make it less niche and more desirable.

Thats about it. If they had any balls they would put out an automag of some sort. In their prime they were known for crazy durable hand cannons. Its a joke they never put out an Automag type pistol. .they should take a hard look at the LAR grizzly or Automag IV. Ruger could pull either one of those off pretty easily.

I am not really impressed with the Max LCP. Same fragile build quality as the LCP. They were even lazy with the mag design. That gun should have a steel subframe designed for a real doublstack magazine. Then it could be a "MAX". Right now its just a fragile plus. They should have called it the LCP Skinny Fat. Might as well make it pink and throw some flowers on it. Same fragile guts with a bigger butt. Give it some blue highlights and make it the LCP "Woke" model.

Now imagine this.... steel subframe, beefed up internals, traditional and reliable 12rd flush fit mag, capable of handling sustained +p loads, well tested. That would be an LCP MAX with staying power. If Beretta is smart they are working on a double stack Pico right now.

I sound like a Ruger basher but I am not. I have more rugers than any other. They are a shell of what they once were though. At least when it comes to the semi autos. The Ruger American looked like a step in the right direction (durability wise) and then they went right back to making junk again.

I am getting tired of all these excuses... not made for lots of shooting BS.....might as well buy a bryco for a pocket gun. I they want to go cheap they should just make an ultra durable straight blowback and put it at the $100-125 price point to drown out the competition.

I give Ruger credit for the 5.7 because it gave the general public an affordable option for the cartridge and it seems like everyone is carrying and shooting the 5.7 now. Great business move there for Ruger. LCR??? .... Meh. Its not like they are cheap.

It really is good that there is an American affordable alternative though.

I wouldn't expect any quality gun to be cheap.

Thats the main point of all this polymer. Lots of inexpensive quality guns out there these days. Modern Ruger just likes to be pricks sometimes. LCR and LCP22 are just two examples.
