Saw this guy today

I had a small buck in my back yard yesterday and a decent 6 point cross the road 100 yards from my house.

The buck in my avatar was photographed at Cades Cove in Smoky Mt NP a few years ago. Another shot of him.

Same day, there were 6-8 bucks chasing a doe across this field. They stopped long enough to pose for this shot.

A few years later in the same area. This would have been early February.

I have a bunch of good photos of elk in the Smoky's, but that is for another thread.

I live close to cades cove, but haven’t ever been there. The pictures that people I know post of the wildlife there amaze me.

I have been watching deer in this area for a few years now. It’s in the middle of town, bordered on all sides by the fairgrounds, a sewage treatment plant, and an industrial area. Can’t be more than about 6 acres. The antlers are all kinds of strange. I saw this guy last night as I was finishing up my monthend paperwork. Last year he started forming normal antlers but when he got started forming tines on top of main beams they basically went out instead of up. An old buck was killed here last year where the antlers looked like they were melted and laid down along the back of his head and down his neck. Either there’s some chemicals issues going on, or some really crazy genetics, possibly both. But here’s this guy. Looks like he’s probably 3 hrs old this year. IMG_5722.jpeg

I don't know about seeing them again. I hunted a 900 acre farm in Arkansas for several years. Every year we would see several nice bucks enough times to name them. There would be 4-6 of them running together all summer. By October they would disappear. We took some decent deer every year, but they weren't the ones that we had named. Haven't figured it out yet.

Last fall my buddy was posted up on an obvious heavy use deer trail in muzzleloader season waiting for a doe to show up. Two bucks walked within 10 feet of him and stopped to sniff him. "Yup, smells like a doe tag."

So true!!!!

A couple of years ago my wife had a cow tag. We spent a week hunting cows and most of the time we’re having to shove 330”+ bulls out of our way trying to find a cow.
The year before that we had bull tags and all we saw were cows.
