He just arrived today. It makes the second in "almost prohibited" revolvers I've got now.

You see, up this way in Canuck land us late starters apparently can't be trusted with guns which have 4" or shorter barrels (105mm and shorter actually). So I count myself pretty lucky to have come across two guns that were converted from Prohibited status to Restricteds by extending and re-lining the barrels so I can own them. It's as close to 4 inch or less as I can legally own.

Cyrano is a Model 15-3 with a delightfully pristine low wear blued shine. So shiny in fact that what looks like holster wear is just glare off the flash. He's sporting a pinned barrel with plain square chamber openings.

I was only expecting the gun alone so I was happy as a kid with two ice cream cones to find him wearing the Don Hume holster you see in the second picture. AND he tossed in a couple of Safariland speed loaders to boot ! ! !

The last shot is a family portrait with Pinocchio who joined the family about a year ago.

Cyrano will be joining his brother Pinocchio for some casual range time, Speed Steel and his main purpose of IDPA SSR duties.

Pinocchio is a Model 66-1 with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. He's been in regular use for the past year as I work on my revolver IDPA fun and handling. I've also shot with him a couple of times at my club's monthly Speed Steel matches. So I suspect he'll enjoy the relief of sharing the duties with Cyrano.

It's a GREAT day in the gun world for me.... :D

BCRider,

Your selection for "extended nose" revolvers is impeccable! The Smith "Combat Masterpiece" iterates the house's reigning bullseye champ into combat duty way more effectively than Colt ever did, and the "intangibles" (read handling characteristics) of this revolver many feel are unequaled.

And all you needed to do was give them a Cyrano or Pinnochio nose to get them drinking Moose Head? Who said canucks are dumb?

That's just wonderful! Nice pair!

I'll bet you say that to all the girls.... :D

Thanks to all of you so far. Yep, I'm on cloud 9 today. Spent a good bit of the afternoon cleaning and just fondling the new toy.

Found a very slight kink on the inside rod of the cylinder assembly that was making it a touch tough to open the cylinder. No idea how it got that way since the rest of the crane and parts all check out 110%. So I suspect it got a kink during some sort of servicing when it was out on its own and vulnerable.

Opening up the cylinder is slick as snail snot now though.

Had a 15 issued during the Viet Nam era. My favorite revolver.

I own a Mod 19 and as much as I like .357 , just not as "handy". I own a Mod 10 with an expensive custom tuned action. It is sweet and a very good combat action .38. My favorite to this day is the Mod. 15 with completely stock configuration.

Hard to beat and worth a "nose job"!

Regards to good taste!

Thanks again.

Just to add that Cyrano brings my K frame total up to a nice round five. In order that they traipsed in the door they are;

  • Model 19
  • Model 10
  • Model 17
  • Model 66
  • Model 15

In between these appearances a Model 28 and a 1917 Brazilian bullied their way in as well.

I guess you could say that I've got a bit of a thing for S&W wheelguns and the K frames in particular. All in all I'd happily trade off the two N's I've got at the moment for one nice early model 29 in the classic Dirty Harry barrel length. Or perhaps a nice 625 JM model.

After all the K frames I feel like if I'm going to shoot the "dainty" size bullets it may as well be from the nice tidy K frame guns..... :D

I am sure you feel much safer now.

It looks like neat work. I assume there is a shop that regularly offers such a service to legitimize dangerously short revolvers.

I got out and shot Cyrano today. He performed like the champ he appears by matching my own personal group size limits with ease. That is to say that he is easily more accurate than his new owner.... :D

1.25 to 1.5 inch groups at around 12 to 14 yards is my limit other than on the truly good days and that's what he gave me. So he's now officially allowed to stay.... :D

1K, I hear ya. It's odd how the laws work. I can buy the 8.5" short barreled shotgun shown below that is totally unrestricted just because it meets the 26"overall length minimum. But I would become a baby killer if I were allowed to own a 3" barrel K frame revolver.

Hell, they can't even follow their OWN rules. The Mare's Leg guns were classified as non-restricted because they were based on full length rifles. Never mind that in the Mare's leg format they are under the 26"minimum overall length normally required to be considered non-restricted.

It just points out how stupid the laws are when they are directed at controlling the folks that are not the ones they should be worried about.

Men's names?

I find it interesting that you regard your guns as male. I thought most referred to their firearms as females.

Only because there aren't any well known long nosed ladies found in history or literature... :D I don't normally give my stuff nicknames. But these two just are so odd with the nose extensions that I couldn't help myself.

I suppose if I get another at some point I'll have to nickname it "Jimmy" after Jimmy Durante.... :D
