SBR for hogs

Ok I'm dumping the .300 Black and kicking it completely out of my Safe... shifting back to the 5.56mm for this.

Being a fan of the 458 socom and 450 BM for use on hogs, I really didn’t like the 300 either and thought it was pretty useless as heavy 9mm and regular 45 ACP bullets do what it does for cheaper subsonic and I couldn’t get results I wanted out of it super.

@mcb recommended the barns TAC Tx bullet and it’s a winner. Only pigs I have shot with it, using those projectiles that didn’t drop where they stood were already running when they got hit so they rolled to a stop. I carry it a lot more that the big bore ones now, mostly because it’s a bit lighter and shorter with the can on.

That said, when I disliked it, I wouldn’t have traded for a .223 unless we were just killing them in traps but a .22 works for that and I already had much better suited caliber uppers to pick from too.

A guy here recruited his friends to knock back the hog infestation on the old family farm.
So they got shot with everything on the market.
He reported that the good old .30-30 was the optimum pig rifle, killing as well as anything bigger and better than those smaller calibers. That seems to favor a BO supersonic or a Wilson HAMR if you want an ottomattik.

Some years ago, back when "boar hunting" was a sport, not vermin extermination, a friend's daughter killed one with a .223. But we should probably not count that one, she hit it right between the eyes.

Some of them don’t take much too kill them.

I have done it by accident, when I dropped the gate.

Sorry about the post earlier that I used the words "delete" on I had drifted off in topic (massively) that should have it's own thread, so I attempted to remove it.
But love Jmorris alternative hog killing method LMAO drop the gate.

The .458 socom / 450 Bush recommendation is a good one, and I had not considered. Almost a semi auto 45-70 in it's range. I "might" have to go this route, maybe, even though the current build has three under it's belt. I don't envision setting traps but not saying it wont happen either. The 9mm AR pistol / SBR (once the brace stamp is approved) will work on the traps, as I keep a suppressor on it with the heavies (actually my home defense gun).

Yes and I can reach into the gun cabinet and pull out some guns in 6.5 Creed, .308, 30-06, .244 Remington, 7mm Rem mag that will definitely put em down. Although the size and weight is longer and heavier. Or could I again reach into that same cabinet and get a long barreled AR, sure can any where from 16" to 26".

I just wanted to try this route akin to the old trapper Winchester of old in a semi 5.56mm in case the BIL didn't take a interest in this style hunting that way I could justify it in other uses. Now I might change the upper caliber later after a trip or two to a larger caliber. But then again might not because the BIL and I might not go more than once / twice or it may just take. It will depend on him LOL.

I was considering something similar made by Barnes the TSX somewhere between the 62grs and the 78gr which ever provides the best performance. Although I know that several manufacturer offers similar type projectiles.

Love my 450 Bushmaster I got some of the 395gr Hornady Sub X projectiles and plan on loading them supersonic ~1300 or so. I'd also add that IMHO my 350 Legend AR is a MSR version of the 1894 30/30 short light handy and shoots 150gr@2400 or 170gr@2200 just like grandpa's thuddy ruddy. Mine ended up at 7.5# as pictured. 20221119_142331_HDR.jpg
