SBS and sending it out later??

Can I apply for a Form 1, get it back, cut my barrel down, then send it out for a conversion and possibly shorten the barrel and move the gas block later on if I wanted to change the gun later on in life? What if I don't like the 12.5" home made shotgun, then send it out to shorten it to 10" or so..?
 
Yes you can modify an SBS after you get the stamp. ATF wants you to notify them in writing of the changes, but I don't think there is an official form for it, and you don't have to get any approvals.

Some folks don't even bother notifying them. The law doesn't really speak to that at all.
 
Thanks, I want to cut it to 12.5", but I might want to knock it down to 10", which requires more work than I have time for... I just don't want to screw myself...
