Scary Recall (Taurus Brazil)

They should've stayed with the PT92 or gone to Glock 17s like their special operations squads.

Whenever large sums of money are involved, there is corruption, and when there is corruption the purchasing decision is seldom in the best interest of the officers or agents using the guns or the public in general.

Wow, interesting. I wondered a number of times about certain striker fired pistols, if the slide fit were loose, if the sear could slip. But what about the FP block???

Oh gee, Taurus had a recall. Well if memory serves me right, Berretta had a few slides departing the frame and into US GI's faces. Ruger has recalled several recent models. Colt and S&W aren't strangers to such things.

98,000 pistols. For one city's police. Yeah, something ain't right.

I take it you've never been to Sao Paulo? It is a city of over 11 million people. It is one of the biggest cities in the world And this is for the sate of Sao Paulo according to that article, not just the city.

The third pistol discharge demonstration looks doctored, the one with the safety being engaged first. I don't see brass ejecting like in the first one.

Taurus, out of the other big names, has had hit or miss quality. But so has other companies. Springfield has a big recall out now, so does S&W and Remington is fighting off demands to recall anything with the R700 trigger.

Over 20 million in the metropolitan area now. I lived there, they need to carry machine pistols.

I had a PT-140 that would do this, partially anyway. Sometimes the sear wouldn't catch the striker when firing, other times a little bump or thumb pressure on the slide would release the striker. But it never fired due to the firing pin block safety.

On the full unedited version of the video someone is pointing to the firing pin block and then working the striker. Can anybody translate what he is saying for us? Just after the 2:00 mark.

I assume the language is Portuguese but since I don't speak it I can't really know.

The slide is locked to the frame when the safety is engaged. The slide cannot recoil and thus can't eject the spent case.

Agreed, all manufacturers can have recalls even if they euphemistically refer to them as "upgrades." But the issue with these Taurus pistols seems especially worrisome.

I know it's just movies, but if anyone wants to get a sense of policing in Brazil check out Elite Squad and Elite Squad:The Enemy Within.

Taurus..... yeah well.......... Taurus. Of course every firearm maker out there has had recalls so that's a bummer I guess?

Good marketing would say "No trigger needed!!!!" With the new "NTN" system all you have to do is wave your pistol at criminals and they will drop like flys!!!!!

I would like to know what made the gun fire. I can understand that a gun might fire without the trigger being pulled, but something caused the gun to fire. As an example the old Ortgies pistol was known to fire in very rare cases when the firing pin foot broke under tension of the firing pin spring. Since that was the only thing holding back the striker type firing pin, the gun went off, and sometimes there was a set of circumstances that caused it to go FA. But the gun would not go off from holding it - a specific part had to break under specific conditions.

That gun had a lot of wear on it.....so it isn't likely new right out of the box

I have never trusted taurus auto's the two I had and most of the ones friends have bought made several trips to the factory most where for Not going bang.
Love my little revolver though

Wow. That is amazing. That is insane but I can think of a few other manufacturers that have had similar issues with guns firing with safeties on or when being jarred. Still though that is pretty demoralizing when considering buying one of these guns.
