It dawned on me that maybe I should ask here.

I have a Schrade OT model 858 that unfortunately has a damaged blade due to a case of butterfingers. Some years ago, I contacted Schrade about making a repair to it (i.e. new blade installed), they said they could, but I never got it sent off. Now, as I understand, they are no longer in the business so to speak.

Any ideas as to where or if this could still be done?

Thanks for any info.

Don't know about getting it replaced, but maybe you can have it re-ground\repaired?

Obviously depends on how extensive and where the damage is on the blade.

You are correct that the Schrade we grew up with no longer exists. Not sure if the new 'off shore' Schrade would take care of you or not.

You have a very sought after model, the largest stockman in the Old Timer line (made 1978-1985). One that would be tough to find a replacement blade for.If the blade damage isn't too bad, like only the tip, then a regrind would be your best bet to reshape it.

Taylor LLC (the new owner of the Schrade trademarks) would not be able to fix it.Their product is made overseas (China) and as of yet has not reproduced the 858OT. Sorry:(

Gents, I thank you for the info.

The main blade does have quite a chunk out from the tip back, about 1/3 of the blade. It was dropped and landed just right to break a large chunk. It has been reground, but with that much missing, its just not right.

Was my favorite until then. still would be if I could ever find a replacement blade.

Thanks again.
