I'm looking to add a scope to my Marlin Model 60. I'm on a budget of $100 so the lower price, the better. My goal is to shoot accurate groups up to 100 yds. Primary use for the Marlin will be target shooting, but small game hunting will also be used. What do you suggest? Please include the mounting hardware, as well.

Id go with any of the 3-9x40s around 50 bucks or so. Most will be decent, i personaly like simmons 8-point for a cheepee. B-square .22 rings are around 6-9 bucks and are decent for the price. My Marlin would usualy do around 3-4" at 100 and1.5-2 at 50. I loved that gun, I think i killed more things with that one gun then any of the others i had.

Here's my 60 with the Wally's CenterPoint 3X9 scope. I like the scope a lot, even the illuminated cross hairs work well. On the same rack you find the scope you'll find Weaver rimfire 1" steel rings for about $6...buy those and put the rings that come with the scope in your parts box.

Check out the Mueller 4.5-14 APV scope. It will be ~$25 above your budget but it is well worth the extra $$$. The glass is superb allowing you to see those tiny .22 holes at 100 yards:)

I own three Center Point scopes (Walmart under $70). All but one are mounted using the mounts that came with the scopes, All have worked well. The 6-18 comes with an adjustable objective lens which is very handy for shooting targets with the rimfires. The only problem I have is that I shoot targets off the bench mostly and my eyes get tired pretty fast. I don't have this happen with the more expensive scopes I own, but then I AM older than dirt:)

I agree, I'm a big fan of the cheaper Simmons and even Tasco's for .22's. One of my personal favorites are the Simmons 8 Points, but I like the Center Point 4-16's at Walmart also. It's not the best glass, but do you really need glass that's great for a .22 rifle? Not me. I can't see spending over $100 on a scope for a .22, but I know lots of guys do it. One advantage to the Center Point is the AO which is nice imo on a .22.

I just put a Cabelas brand caliber-specific scope on my 981TS and love it. 3-9x very sharp optics and has hold points at 50, 75, and 100 yards.

I've had a Bushnell Sportview 3-9 on my 60 for 30 years now. Should be equivalent to any of the NC Star/Barska/Leapers/BSA cheap ... 'scuse me .... lower priced scopes out there.

dime sized holes at 50 yards all day long. I chew a hole in the target and then shoot one off to the side and use that as a target. Amazing accuracy for a $60 (in 1982) 'cheap gun'.

I use a red dot on mine. It is fine for the range I shoot my 22. If I need to shoot further, I get a different gun......chris3

Personally I like a 14x or greater for .22LR target shooting and a fixed-4x for hunting. For both uses I think a 3-9x or thereabouts would work well (anything greater will likely be too heavy and large for practical hunting purposes). Despite being a bit more than your budget, I'd take a strong look at the Sightron S-I and Nikon ProStaff. I think you'll find the additional expenditure to be justifiable.
