I have a new Thompson Center Compass. I know it comes with weaver style bases installed. I would like to install Leupold Double Dovetail. Does anyone know what bases would be compatible to use on TC Compass rifle? Thank you

Thanks for your help. If I stayed with weaver bases I was going use Burris signature zee rings. Do you think the Leupold DD would be stronger , better for magnum? 300 win mag

I already gave you my .02

I see no real advantage of DD's over the Weaver bases that you already own.

A better question is are Weaver style bases inadequate for a 300WM. I think the rings are more important, and Burris Z's are an excellent choice. The only problem that I have with them, and its purely personal, is they aren't offered in a low height. For me, mounting a 40/42 mm objective scope on a hunting rig, I like to get as close to the barrel as practicable. Low has always worked; its just a better cheek weld/eye alignment for me.

I'm kind of going through the same process with a 300WM Browning AB3 that belongs to one of my sons. It currently has the Browning Weaver style bases. The kid was strapped for cash, and bought some Leupold Rifleman aluminum rings in a low height, and his scope is slipping. We're trying to find some better quality low rings and are having a problem. Burris Z's are too high, he also bought (and returned) some low Warnes that were higher than the Burris'. Still looking.

Weaver or Weaver style are STRONGER than the dovetail mounts. The Burris Zee rings are my favorites to use with those bases, but even the old school Weaver rings function just fine. Not the most aesthetically pleasing though.

Right now the Talley Lightweight or DNZ Game Reaper mounts would be my 1st choice. Even though they are aluminum the base and lower ring are all the same piece of metal. This eliminates one more place for stuff to mess up and adds strength without weight.

The dovetail rings and bases have a tiny metal stud on each ring that slides into a hole in the base. Not all that much metal connecting the ring and base. Plus to really install them correctly requires special tools to make sure both rings are properly aligned. If not you'll damage the scope. And over time the fit between the ring and base can become sloppy allowing the rings to move. You'll never see them used on a target rifle.

Why not put a picatinny style base on your rifle? 300 WM could use a little MOA cant in it if it were me. 20 or 30 MOA rails are available everywhere. Amazon, Midway. Eurooptic etc.

Warne Maxima, now offered in a horizontal split for those who prefer, TPS (offered in steel or aluminum, Weaver or 1913) or Talley if you prefer the look. BTW Burris Zee are offered in Low whereas Signature Zee are not.

I’ve mounted a bunch of scopes using just about every ring and base made. Here’s what I’ve found is good quality and works:
Warne
DNZ
TALLEY
EGW
LEUPOLD(excluding Rifleman)
Burris
Weaver
I’m sure there are some I’ve forgotten.

I've bought a lot of rings and bases, Tally, Leupold, and Warne mostly. I strictly use the Warne vertical rings now. Warne also has great customer service.

With your setup all you need is the rings, no bases which should save you some money.

Medium height should be good for you.

I normally buy mine from Opticsplanet.com and find a coupon code.

Warne has become my go to, IMO best balance between cost and quality.

Can usually find some decent deals at OpticsPlanet, unfortunately for me I live in Illinois so they charge me sales tax (@9.5%). If it weren't for that, I'd probably buy from them alot more, but adding in the sales tax usually kills any deal for me.

Warne does have outstanding customer service. They are always my first choice. I happen to prefer vertically split rings but Warne now has horizontally split rings too.
