Fella's;

I've recently purchased a Tikka Whitetail Hunter LHB in .338 Winchester magnum. That's the 691 action. I like the gun, but have had a hard time getting it sighted in. I purchased a set of Burris bases for it, and they aren't getting the job done. The rear windage base apparantly is not able to hold the rear ring stable against the recoil. Recoil that I don't consider to be excessive either. The load is a 225 gr bullet at 2850 fps, over my chrono.

I realize that I may have to bend over to Beretta & purchase the quite expensive system for the Tikka that they market. But I'd rather not reward their greed with my money.

Does anyone have a line on sturdy bases for the Tikka's? I would think that with as popular as these guns are getting, someone would be willing to fill the gap. I didn't see either Leupold or Talley listing bases on their websites.

Are some of the Sako bases the same?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Have you tried Tikka receiver rings? I have a set of of matte blue low rings for a Whitetail Hunter that you can have for $25 shipped, if you want to try them. I was getting ready for an elk hunt this fall and I ended up going with a Weaver #61 base and Burris Sig. Zee Rings on a .308 WH.

SAKO Optilocks are available too. Do not buy them direct from Beretta, nearly twice the already high price. If I was starting again I would use Tikka receiver rings or since I had Burris rings (steel) I should have ordered Weaver #61S (steel) bases. Though the set I have works fine.

I am not sure about CZ and Tikka receiver grooves being the same. Sako's are different.
Good Luck
