I have a CZ Hornet. It's about the size of a regular rimfire. Looking for ideas for a scope. Was going to get a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 but that might be kinda big physically. And, it will be used during daylight so I'm not looking for a big objective.

I'd like maybe something in maybe 2-7x32 to match the size of the rifle. Something quality wise that would compare to a VX-2 or 3, or the Zeiss.

Looking for ideas besides the few that I have found.

Thx

I have a 2-7x32 Nikon. It is a good scope. It handles the recoil of a 12ga and remains on target. The Nikon travels well in the truck and on a 4 wheeler. I cannot swear to it being the same on every magnification. I set the scope on 5x and I have had no need to change the magnification. I killed 3 deer this year with the shotgun and scope. It hit the deer where I aimed every time. I am not going to get out to play with a 12ga slugs. The recoil is vicious and $2 each for the Hornady SST sabots is a "deal."

I would go to your local big box store and check out the Nikon. If you like the Nikon you can find a scope for $130 or less. If you don't like the Nikon you are out a little gas money.

Now days all the glass in even the cheapest scopes is laser cut. All the brand name that cost around $100 remain sealed so they do not fog up. The difference is the quality of the adjustment knobs and repeatability at all magnifications.

Anything you buy today is mass produced. I am sure you are aware that in any production line stuff happens. Use your credit card to buy any scope so if you do not get what you paid for you can recover your money via buyer protection.

i put a leupold 2x7 rimfire scope on my CZ-fox mod-2 in .22 hornet and it shoots four shot groups of less than a inch at one hundred yards from a rest with prive yugo ammo. eastbank.

I'll sing the praises of the Nikon scopes as I own four at present including one mounted on a Winchester Mode 43 in .22 Hornet of course.

I have a Simmons Masterpiece scope on my 22mag. I have more problems getting the H on a Hornady shotgun shell turned so I can see it, than hitting it with the 22mag at 80 yards. I am not using a bench. That is just propping my rifle on a tree. I do not have a shooting bench on my place. There will not be a bench in the woods when I am hunting.

A victim of the 22mag. Not my best shooting but good enough to pop a rabbit in the head. I didn't step this one off. I would say it was close to 100 yards braced up on a solid poplar.

I've had three Nikon scopes. Latest was a Monarch that was considered one of their best. I was less than impressed with any of them. I had written them off.

In all fairness, perhaps they have followed the lead of Leupold and others that have improved quality across the board. Since there are so many here that seem to feel they are of good quality, I will check them out.

Thx

I have a Zeiss Conquest on my 527 it looks good. That 3-9x40 is a real good scope for the money. If I had it here I would attach an image the rifle is at the camp.

I have not been that impressed with the Nikon's as well

Good luck and shoot straight

redneck2: I shoot a CZ 527 American 22 Hornet with a 6-24X40 AO BUSHNELL 4200 ElITE on it and have for several years. And I think it is the best for me. But I also shoot a Model 43 Winchester in 218 BEE with a Old Denver Redfield 6-18X40 AO on it and have for many years. And I really think that both of these scopes are very good choice`s for both of my rifles, at least for me they are.

I have a Leupold VX II 4-12X with AO on my Savage Model 25 .22 Hornet and it is a good combo. Bought the scope years ago and have had it on 3 different rifles. Have sold the rifles, but the scope stays; it's a good one and can be bought used at gun shows for not much money.

I ended up ordering the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 from Euro Optics. Asked Mr Google about pricing. They still had some at $329.

Did not get a chance to look at the others. I believe this particular one has been discontinued. At that price, I suspect they will be sold out soon, as they were the only place I could find close to that price. Didn't want to wait and miss out. Worst case, I can sell it and break even at that price.

IIRC, back a few years ago this same scope was well over $400, then dropped to $399, then $379.

I read "scope wars" here all the time between various brands. I can test Zeiss vs. Leupold head to head, equivalent price, power range, and price range.

I'd really like to look at Vortex some time. Anyway, thanks for the input .

My Kimber .22H, one of the few modern guns I haven't sold, has an old and terrific steel tubed Weaver 4x. It has the fine varmint type cross hairs that don't cover any of the target. Those old Weavers (bought several in the early 1970s) were some of the finest scopes ever produced and they didn't cost much, either.

I agree about the old Weavers.
Optics were great with POSITIVE click adjustments.
I still use a couple of K-4's that cost less than $50.00 and on my Marlin 39-A sits a K-6 of the same vintage.

That Zeiss Conquest I bought 2 of last year around $300 and yes they are upgraded now or US made. That scope very, very good optically and a 3-9 is a very realistic and good choice for the .22 Hornet. I put one on my Savage 342 to replace the old 6x Elpaso Weaver and it is like Night and day!;)

I've got a 2x7 Leupold (I think it's a rimfire scope but bought it used so not sure) on my Ruger .22 Hornet. It fits the rifle and 7 power is all I need for 100/125 yards -- the limit of the Hornet and I get about 1 inch groups at 100 yards.

Got the Zeiss today. Mebbe gonna try to get it mounted this week end. Haven't got my press working yet after moving, so it's gonna be a month or so at least before I get a chance to shoot it

Thanks for the input

I flat out forgot to mention this in my previous post. Some years back I removed the 4X steel tube Weaver and installed an ancient Leupold 2-7 scope. The Weaver was fine and I killed several deer with that scope on my Hornet. The 2-7 Leupold was a more versatile scope, IMHO.
