I'm looking to scope my newest .22 acquisition, a Mauser 201 Luxus Model. I'll mostly hunt squirrels with it. The standard I'll stick with is the Leupold VX 3i 2.5-8X 36mm. I have an older model of this scope on my 541S and it's hard to beat. But, I would like input from you guys out there. I have access to buying club prices so I'm not too concerned about the Leupold expense compared to other less expensive models. I just want another great squirrel rifle. I'll appreciate your help. Tom

Get a VX-3i with side focus in the zoom range you prefer. It’s real easy to answer questions when framed like yours.

The ones I don’t like are where the OP just bought a nice rimfire rifle then wants a good cheap scope for under $75.00 because, “ hey guys it’s just a .22”.

Since it is a .22, look for a scope where parallax can set to a shorter range.

Mueller APV's and Weaver V-16 Classics are popular at my range...and they're reasonably priced.

I think you answered your own question. There are a few really nice scopes that would work, but for close money and that application you can’t really go wrong with Leupold. I went VX-2 in 4-12 x but for a range plinker and I think your 2.5-8 would be a fantastic squirrel getter.
