Scope Mounts: Opinions?

Warne's quick detach rings are really a third generation by product. Originally designed and built by the great Leonard Brownell, later offered by the original Kimber, and then picked up by Warne and Dave Talley.

For pure elegance and beauty, the Conetrol is perhaps the cleanest and nicest. Many rings and bases get the utilitarian job done but for pure class Conetrol stands out. Colt Sauer 2.jpg

I prefer the Leupold STD bases and rings because of the ability to use their mechanical windage adjustments that allow you to leave the scope's windage adjustments alone when initially sighting in. This gives you the full range of windage adjustment in the scope for actual use rather than using a significant amount of that adjustment just for sighting in. I have used this approach with my Winchesters.

I've run Burris steel Zee rings for decades.
Had the Signatures for a good while too.
7mm and .300 magnums, zero issues.

The plastic insert makes the medium height Singature Zees a little taller than a reg medium Zee ring, and I had to go low due to my 760 being of low comb.
So I used the cheap.ugly Leupold Rifleman rings.......in a low. Not happy with the look (they should radius the ears).....finish is fine but is between matte and gloss. I'd like to change them.........but they worked perfectly. So they're staying.

Obviously, if I had a pretty rifle I'd use something that looked better LOL.

My tolerance for BS is at an all time low and while the Signature Zee rings are nice (never mark up a scope).........that insert is a bit of a PITA at times.
I proly won't buy another set.

DNZ Gamereaper on my TC muzzleloader has been rock solid for years. The Leupold Ultimate Slam has never budged under pretty heavy recoil and plenty of shooting. Super easy set up.

Another vote for DNZ, although not if you are trying to maintain a classic look. In my experience, Talleys mar scopes unless you lap them. I've had good experience with Leupold standard rings on both one and two piece bases; they are probably what I would use if I wanted a classic look.

I got four sets of Talley's. Two on Remington 700's. One set of a Savage 110. Finally, a Vanguard in 300 Weatherby Magnum. Not a problem. Company was very helpful with two mounting problems. One was lost screws. The other was getting exactly the right base for an old Savage. Good mounts. Good company.

Addendum: I had a tough time mounting the scope on the Vanguard. It was no big deal to reverse one of the Talley rings. Problem went away.
