I'm looking for scope recommendations for a hunting revolver. I have a Leupold M8 2X EER on my Blackhawk Bisley Hunter and want something similar for a new-to-me Single Six Hunter. I think I'd prefer a 2X to a 4X, and I don't particularly want a variable. I don't see a 2X EER in Leupold's current lineup. I have limited experience with Burris scopes but it looks like they have one that might fit the bill. I also think I'd prefer a traditional crosshair to a red dot, but I'm open to ideas.

What do y'all recommend?

Sadly, the scope manufacturers have all but abandoned handgun hunters. Best bet is gunbroke(er) and/or fleabay for a used Burris or Leupold. They are the top tier makers. Bushnell is, IME, good too, but Leupold and Burris are better.

I keep wanting to try a red dot, but I can still see my crosshairs. Can’t help you with the dots (yet). Best of luck, and be patient. A deal will show up.

A quick look at eBay shows quite a few Leupold 2x handgun scopes. That is exactly what I would do - and in fact there is a brushed stainless model available that I think I will go buy right now.

Some of those eBay prices are nuts. I agree that the Leupold 2X is a good scope, but the M8 is old technology and a new Burris 2X can be had for under $250 and a 2-7X for $330 or thereabouts.

ETA: Found a nice silver M8 4X28 at a good price on another board. That'll do.

While I haven’t had any problems with any of my Burris scopes the Bisley has the 2-7 and as you crank up the magnification the eye relief shortens. Not a problem if you’re shooting from a rest . At 2 power not a problem.

Range fun and paper punching, out to 100 yards......I like 7X.
Hunting.........2X
Taking my 4X Leupold to the gunshow tomorrow.
TC .22 mag bbl is getting a RDS

Ebay prices are stupid on gloss Beaverton products, even on the pistol stuff (where market is lesser)

The Leupold is bombproof but you don't really need that level of ruggedness for a .22. It's no excuse to go cheap either. Depending on the type of hunting you're doing, you may want a little more and go for a 4x. I really like the older Burris handgun scopes and many of them are parallax adjustable.

I wouldn't look at any of the variables that top out higher than 4x. They're a lot of bulk and weight for magnification you can't even use. At .22 ranges, the upper magnifications will have severe parallax. Been there, done that.
