Scope or Red dot your M1 Garand?

I've used the AmegaRanges mount on my M-1 and a couple of friends have it on there Garands. I use a Burris 2 3/4 X scout scope (German 3 post reticle) with a 200M zero. Love it. One friend has an Aimpoint 9000L 2 X (2 MOA dot) on his and the other guy did some machining on his to fit a Burris Fast Fire red dot (4 MOA) to co-witness it so that he can use the iron sights without removing the sight. It's pretty slick, but having shot both a lot would recommend that if you use a red dot, go with a 2 MOA dot. More practical at longer ranges.

Hey brother, do what you want, if I had a choice I would go with a nice scope of some make, but PLEASE just don't do anything permanent to a M1 Garand haha! Personally even the thought of chopping or tapping/drilling or anything permanent to a M1 Garand is a nightmare come true!

Well I like that Fulton Armory set up! Looks like it's the cat's meow. As for alterations - I say it's your rifle, do with it what you will.

Snapshot75,

That's why I bought the Garand and carried it hunting. My grandfather carried one in WWII in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest and the Bulge and earned a purple heart, bronze star, and CIB. Obviously, my experiences hunting are a far cry from what he, you, and all other men experienced in combat, but I do feel a bit closer to him because of the rifle. He's been gone seven years now. I will always cherish my Garand because I think of my grandfather every time I hold it or talk about it.

My grandfather told my father about lying in the snow for days at a time in the Hurtgen forest because if you raised up off the ground at all you'd be shot. One of these years I'm going to get a set of clothes and boots as close to what he was issued as I can and head out into the field in December and feel a bit of what it must have been like for him.

Me too ...

I'm trying to do the same sort of set-up. It's for a 5M serial number mix-master (I have a 1M rifle that is original). I want to co-witness and the Leupold RD is listed at 21mm. Any lower?

I'll be using a UltiMAK forward rail.
