I have a Vortex Viper HST (30mm tube) that I'm going to mount on a stock Stevens 200 rifle. My future plans are to move this optic to a Savage 12LRP in 260 Rem. I want to buy rings that will work for the future plans. I'm leaning towards the Burris Signature Zee rings, but wanted to see if I could get some advice on rings and ring height for this setup. I plan on measuring this before I just willy nilly purchase rings, but just wanted to see if anyone had encountered this situation before and how they handled it. Thanks in advance.

I don't have it in my hands yet. I just ordered it from Colonial Armory out of TN... I found the guy on snipers hide and he beat the best online price I could find by $50-75 bucks... I have one of the cheaper Vortex Crossfire scopes that I have enjoyed. I also have a Vortex Strikefire that I had to send back so I got to see what their warranty service was like and it was on point... That was one of the factors I decided on this scope...

Did some measuring today and think I have the rings figured out... We'll see...

I've got a few junk scopes of varying size that I keep around for just such purposes. Once the base is installed, I like 1913 one-piece affairs, I tape shims of scrap wood to the tube to find a comfortable height then measure. Even if the test scope is of different dimensions you can adjust by checking clearance until you've got enough for the permanent scope.

If you've got a few sets of old rings you could mock up the same. Helps to know the scope's dimensions ahead of time, one reason I like to check MidWay whether I buy from them or not as they often list all dimensions.

I've used Burris Signature rings for years and highly recommend them. They align the scope to the barrel and the inserts clamp tightly on the scope to prevent movement and scratches.

I have both rifles wearing Weaver style bases with Burris Signature Zee rings and a rifle wearing a DNZ mount. After having both I can tell you I'll never buy a DNZ mount again. The Signature Zee rings are by far my favorite rings under $100.

For a specific brand selection I like TPS TSR (1913 picatinny) rings, also available for Weaver (TSR-W) mounts. They are well built from solid billet in aluminum or steel and incredibly easy to use thanks to their unique, non-symmetrical clamping mechanism. Left side is torqued down and touching, right side screws torqued with a gap meaning no more unscrewing to even things out. Best I've ever used.

I have used most of the rings mentioned, and I use the Burris Signature Zee rings for my hunting rifles and either the TPS TSR rings or Badger Ordnance rings for my Tactical/Match rifles. The Burris Signature Zee medium height rings will easily clear your barrel.

just to prove that opinions vary from person to person, I have used burris signature and dnz... I'd much rather have DNZ game reapers. You may not, like slowr1der did not, but I would and so I do. Opinions abound, but look them over and see if you like them like you would any other option.

Do you plan to use the same optic across both rifles? If so, I would suggest considering an M1913-type rail, with Picatinny rings. All of my centerfire rifles (except my M70 Super Grade) wear M1913 rails. As such, I can switch any of my scopes across any of the rifles. It is nice to use the 12-42X56 for load development, and then switch to a lower powered optic, say my 1-4X, 2.5-10X or 3.5-15X for hunting. Too many options in brands for me to suggest any single one as being best, and prices vary wildly.

Well based on the measurements I took I ended up choosing the Burris Signature Zee (High) which should clear the barrel on my current rifle by just over .25" which would leave enough room for some Butler Creek covers... Thanks for all the links, I just want something simple and effective.
