Althought 19 year old Swiss soldiers may do well with the shallow V on the standard K31 sights, I certainly don't. I have been checking all the obvious sources for peep sights and scopes. Here's what I've found:
Only Mojo seems to have a drop-in rear peep for the K31. You can use the existing front post or their apertured front post. No one seems to make a fiber optic front post, such as the Williams Firesight. Any one have any experience with the Mojo on this rifle and/or experience with the two types of front posts?
S-K and Darrell make drop-in bases for Scout type scopes. Darrell is for Weaver style, S-K has Weaver and S-K style. Any experiences to help me choose between these two?
AIMsurplus offered an aluminum scout mount for a while but it is no longer on their website. Anyone know anything about it?
All the clamp-on scope mounts seem to be offset from the axis of the barrel. For the life of me, I can't see why anyone would want to have to deal with windage varying with range. It's enough of a job to have elevation vary. No off-axis scopes for me.
There seems to be one somewhat expensive drill and tap conventional scope mounting (St-Marie?) but drill and tap is a last resort.
If i've left out something important, please clue me in. Currently i'm thinking of a Darrell mount and an inexpensive NcStar 2.5x30 to start.
Your comments and experiences and very valuable to me.
