This will be the first time I put a scope on a handgun and I have this 629:

and this scope:

I'll be shooting it on Friday afternoon if all goes as planned. Anyway, the ported barrel is only about 2" from the objective lens and I want to make sure that won't break the scope. I've seen plenty of scopes on revolvers but I don't recall if they were ported this close to the glass. The scope is right behind the front sight if you can picture it from the attached links.
The porting is directed about 15 deg forward and away from the scope.

I have a 629 with a 3200 on it but none of my guns are ported. Was it ported when you purchased it or did you have it done?

I put one on my 629, but took it off shortly thereafter. Too heavy and cumbersome. To me it took away the advantages of shooting a handgun over a rifle. And it really didn't help my off hand accuracy.
