Scout scope is simply a more easily recognized and easier to say name for an extended eye relief scope.

It doesn’t mean that mounting one on a firearm magically makes that firearm a Scout rifle.

Traditionally mounted scopes are not extended eye relief scopes.
That's what I thought. So, if a rifle has a traditional scope, doesn't that make it not a "scout" rifle?

Some years back, Remington had foward scope mount slug barrels in their line up. I found the 1.75x fixed power Burris Scout Scope to be an excellent combination with ultra low rings on the 870. The low mount system even worked well with standard shotgun stocks.

Someone says "scout scope" and everyone should know what that means.

If it's mounted on the receiver, it's no longer a scout rifle.

Guess we need more info from the OP so we know how it's defined for the purposes of this thread. 😉
I don't see any reason for confusion.

The OP is asking about "scout rifle" optics. The options, in the poll, for a "scout rifle" are "scout", "traditional", and "irons". It seems that what makes a "scout rifle" a scout rifle, is a somewhat short-ish barrel and a long eye relief scope (correct me if that's wrong). Hence, it's not possible to have a "traditional" scope on a "scout" rifle, since doing so disqualifies it from being a "scout" rifle. No?
