Here's a possibly stupid question: My fiance and I decided that bullets would make awesome favors for our wedding. We're thinking just a casing with a bullet. No power, no primer, just a seated bullet. Is seating a 9mm bullet by hand possible? I have no reloading experience whatsoever. Any help would be great.

You could but if you're doing more than a couple you'll get sick of it real quick and might not be very pleased with the results.

I'm sure a bunch of people here - myself included - would do this for you as it would be real simple to do with the stuff we use. If you want .223, .45ACP, or 9mm I can seat those for you. For anything else, post what you want & someone will more than likely volunteer 20 min to do it for you.

Just provide the components or cover the cost of mine & the shipping & I'd be happy to do it for you.

BTW, if you take a fired case and insert a bullet, there won't be anything to hold it in place - if the neck is big enough that you can push the base of the bullet into the case mouth, the bullet will just keep going or fall right back out. To do it by hand, you'd have to use some quick set epoxy or something and then only push them in as far as you want them to go.

This is how a .223 or 9mm would look just pushing the bullet into a fired case. The .223 drops to the bottom and falls right back out. The 9mm will bottom into the case taper & you can firmly push it in so that it'll stay there, but it looks silly set so far into the case like that.

i could do .30-06, 270, or 22-250 for you for the cost of components and shipping

and i wet tumble with stainless media, so it'd be super shiny :what:

Yes go with either new brass or wet tumbled. If you use fired brass they wont be as pretty and shiney. A coat of wax or something similar will keep the tarnishing to a minimum as well.

seanie,

congratulations on your wedding.

you can get a lee loader in 9mm for $23.99 at natchez shooter supply (natchez.com). that and a rubber mallet will do what you want.

Awesome! Thanks for the info guys, the offers, and the congratulations. We're going to use new brass, and probably spray something to clear coat over just to keep them looking new. I'm going to pick up some brass and bullets this weekend and try out a few. I'll keep you guys posted as to how they're turning out, and if I'll take any of you up on your offers. Thanks again!

Where are you at in IL? There's very likely someone here in your area that would let you use a press.

If you have access to a drill press, you may be able to seat the bullet with something over the bullet tip (like folded paper towel) to protect the bullet from the chuck. Also, you may need to open up the chuck just enough to fit the tip of the bullet so you won't flatten/crush the tip while you seat the bullet.

It will be much easier than doing it by hand. :D

Save your money. Go to the range & pick up used brass. Give it a twist in steel wool & it looks shinnier then new. Put the money you saved into a cheap press & dies. Now you have a wedding gift to yourself.

OP,
Someone has to be a wet blanket so I'll do it. I can't speak to your locale, but here in Nazi Jerky you could pretty much count on at least one guest to soil themselves at the sight of what they incorrectly perceive to be a "dangerous explosive" and call the police. Your wedding, your call.
FWIW
YMMV

Let them come it will make it more rememberable.

I wore my gun to mine. CC for the wedding & OC at reception both times.

How much do you love this woman? 9mm really?? Cmon bro, if she's wifey material you can at least go 44mag!!

Haha, just kidn. Congrats on finding a gal who's with you on your theme :). Maybe consider hitting a craft store and picking up some sort of keychain type thing to shove, screw, or glue into the flash hole or primer pocket since they won't be primed. Makes em less menacing to any liberals that might be in attendance and more functional for the cool people :)

I'm southwest of Chicago, right along Cook/Will county. My finace, awesomely enough, came from an anti-gun family, and I've swayed both her, and her father's opinion on firearms.

We actually have a zombie themed wedding, and the favors we're looking at doing are going to be 9mm on ball chain necklaces. Hopefully it'll go over well. Even though I'm in the land of the oppressed, most of my family and friends grew up around guns.

I've saved a decent amount of 9mm brass, so I'm going to pick up some bullets and try to seat them and see how it goes this weekend. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks again for the ideas and the well wishes.

Seat the bullets in fired cases by hand - you don't even need to pop the primer. Wash em in dish soap and cool-aid ( nickle plated would be pretty and won't need a coating to keep them shiny). Ding em a couple places on the neck with a finish nail center punch to hold em in, or I think it's 440 locktite that is clear and thick.
