Seeing some ammo in stores here and there.

Went this afternoon to my local Bi-Mart, and.....its a bit barren. Lots of shotgun ammo, .17 rimfire, and one lone box of 30 Carbine Defensive loads.

Glad I am well stocked up----kause there ain't nothing for sale around here----no K mart-Sears-Wards--------------Walmart around here don't sell anymore----nothing at the few gun shops we have left. If the New Guy cut off internet sales we got a serious problem.
Enjoy

All my local stops have ammo, though some high priced. The big box stores are all empty. Any time I check Wal-Mart they might have 2 boxes of 28 gauge shells but the rest is barren. I was really taken back when I stopped into Rural KIng yesterday. They have always had piles of target shells in 12 and 20, but they had 0. Kinda scary.

Was at the local Cabela’s today. The gun department looked like it was the last couple of days of a going out of business sale. Stuff that normally was in one or two aisles was spread all over to make it look like they had product on hand. Very little ammunition of any flavor, and no powder or primers.

I didn't mean to say they weren't making new ammo in the not-as-popular calibers, just that it wouldn't make sense. If Ford knew 60,000 people were waiting for new F-150's to hit the dealership, I wouldn't think they're gonna tie up production capability to make a bunch of Escorts.

It DOES make sense. They have buyers for all the calibers. They don't want to neglect part of their customer base and actually lose brand loyalty as a result of their actions. To use your example, Ford may know that 60,000 people was waiting on F-150s and they know that 10,000 are waiting on Escorts. They aren't going to neglect Escort production. They don't want to lose them to other brands.

What I think you are failing to understand is that ammo companies don't just have people looking for and waiting on only the most popular calibers. They are waiting on the less popular calibers as well. In terms of tying up production, it is ALL selling. Why cater to a few when you can cater to the many?

The ammo/ gun craze will dissipate when you quit hyping it - scare people and people will be scared.

I understand what you mean. It just seems to me that using the resources to produce stuff that may not sell as quickly as the stuff that nobody can keep in stock is the opposite of catering to the many. Or at least catering to the majority.
In reality, I'm not affected by any of it anyway. So it's more just a curiosity to me.

I've got a local gun shop about 10 mins from me that seems to be getting semi regular ammo shipments. I can pretty consistently go get a brick of .22lr for like $20. Sometimes he gets a shipment with 9mm sometimes not. It's first come first serve and it goes pretty quick but if I check his page and scoot my way over fast enough I can get ammo. I'm definitely not sticking my nose up at a box here a box there. At this point I'm only going to shoot what I can buy and leave what I've got to sit until I see some normal prices and availability

The Academy near me had some guns on Saturday, although I didn't look to see what was in stock. The ammo shelves were pretty sparse except for shotgun shells, which seemed to be well represented. The reloading shelves were bare: no primers, powder, brass, or bullets.

I doubt any of us have control of that. I figure it will end when the media stops playing up the riots and such. I figure that will happen this year. We will see. Then the gun guys can stock up on critical calibers so we don't get hobbled by the next shortage.

Academy Sports near me had a grand total of 4 or 5 guns, but it had about 15 bulk packs and about 50 boxes of .22LR ammo. Limit was 3, and price on the bulk packs was a little over a nickel a round.

I was in a LGS a few days ago in Central Ohio too, looking at a Sig P226 in 40S&W. I told the clerk my plan if I got it was to get a 357SIG barrel for it also. He let me know they had a new box of 50 rounds of 357SIG that he would discount to me (can't remember the exact price he quoted but it was pretty reasonable). I passed on the ammo since I have lots at home. It wasn't on the shelf, but he dug it out. It's not the most popular round, but I've been in several gunstores that didn't have any.

I frequent a couple of Oregon Bimart during my lunch break. In the past 5 months I've picked up maybe 300 rounds of 115gr 9mm and about the same in CCI .22lr mini mags. The employees say they sell out most all their ammo as soon as they unbox it. The shelves are barren with the exception of non-milspec hunting rounds and shotgun shells. ALL handgun calibers, .233/556, 22lr are no where to be found for us working stiffs. That being said, I'll be taking a few new shooters to the range this weekend and will be donating my surplus ammo for their benefit.

Howland937: many of the ammo 'chamberings' you described were available here in Academy and Walmart last March-summer.

They were usually there, and it should be obvious to most people Why they were available.

We can easily buy 9mm, .380, 7.62x39 in the gun shops here.

Which is the Main Issue here: price, or availability of the more popular 'chamberings'? Or finding it in bulk online as we did over the last several years while preparing for a prolonged ammo panic?

People have every reason to be scared. There's a lot of ugliness coming down the pike and apparently no way to stop it.

The anti-gun cultists have every intention of going after the 2nd Amendment like the Japanese going after Nanking. Anybody who tells you different is a liar.

Yes ugliness indeed.

I look forward to another shortage ending and a return to whatever the new normal will be. We're about 11 months in and still a good but of variables in play so I'm not even forecasting until another six months rolls along.

I don't see shortages ending any time soon, only aggravated by assaults on the 2nd Amendment heretofore unheard of.

If you think shortages are going to end, just wait until the "assault weapon" and magazine CONFISCATIONS start.

There is literally NOTHING off the table now for the anti-gun cult, and they don't even have to hide it.

Any optimism I had for a gradual easing of the ammo shortage just disappeared in the last 24 hours.
We are in evil times, the likes of which haven't been seen since "burning Kansas".

I expect a maximum push for the most extreme measures, carried out in the most over the top, unlawful and unconstitutional ways possible.

''Buy it cheap & stack it deep''

2021 version will be, ''buy what ? stack what?''

I predict a minor easing in supply several months from now, don't get too used to it cause it will disappear very quick. VERY little let up in prices, if any. As political shenanigans start, there will be no panik buying.... of what is not there.

EXACTLY like, there cannot be panik shopping of XYZ Mart at 3/am, they are closed.

''There's no more pot pies (KFC) we are OUT'' came the 17 yr old's voice through the order speaker.

BTDT:cool: (been there did that)

Give me an idea how those confiscations will happen? Estimated 9.5million "assault weapons" in the US..lets say 5 mags each..47million or so magazines. Coupled with the fact the Feds don't know who has what(gun registration illegal in the US)..just how does a mass, country wide confiscation happen? The manpower, the $, the data...?? Just curious..
Not trying to argue any 'point', so.....I see this all the time, 'confiscation'..just don't see that the $, the manpower, the information, the political will(it would have to be via congress) is there....

I'll bet there WILL be some sort of 'assault weapons' ban(NOT sayimg that's any kind of good thing...OK?)..probably like the last one and probably grand fathered...IMHO...

In Before the Lock...
