Seeking advice on buying a 44 mag revolver

Well...I shouldn't do this...but if folks want pictures to demonstrate the laws of physics..check this one out...Notice the very last of the video at the highest frames per second...you can SEE the gun start moving before the bullet comes out.... locate your cursor rignt on the bottom of the barrel lug at the muzzle and wait and you will SEE a gap before the bullet leaves this short barrel..In a longer barrel this would likely be more pronounced....Ok..I am done with this...Free country..for now...believe what you want...Heck i still think the tooth fairy left me all that money back in the day! LOL!

Nope. That was the weakest attempt...., that bullet was so far gone that you made my point. My eye sees my point proven and I bet you had to search hard for even that. Go ahead and sight your gun in based on recoil. If your saying that tiny little pistols recoil effected that bullet, then I can only imagine how high "your" long barreled rifle must shoot. In addition the movement you claim would more likely be from the shooter. Is that pistol held stationary? Its more likely that that any movement was from the shooter. Shoot and have a misfire, your flinch is dramatic. You also say in a long barrel it would be more pronounced?!?!?! ***? At best a slow slow slooooooow bullet (and I mean slow like red rider BB gun slow) MAYBE will do what you say, but a bullet shot from any god damn gun I have has long left my barrel. Idgaf what ya think at this point. Good luck sighting in for recoil from your BB gun

Hello Highroaders,

I'm new to the forum, but I've been using it as a resource for probably 10 years. I'm currently in the market for a new 44 mag revolver, but I'd like some input. I recently sold my Taurus M44 8.375" revolver because I wanted to upgrade to something nicer. I bought the Taurus when I was in grad school and broke. Now that I've been out of grad school for several years, I've been upgrading my collection of guitars and guns, primarily because I enjoy collecting, and I want my children to inherit some nice guns that they might not be able to find in the future. The Taurus had to be sent in for repairs right after I bought it, and there's no guarantee it won't have to be sent in again. I'm not going to make my kids deal with that mess.

I've narrowed my choices for a revolver down to the Smith & Wesson 629 6.5", Ruger Super Redhawk 7.5 or 9.5", and the Colt Anaconda (assuming I can actually find any of these in stock). I know the Ruger is built like a tank, but the gun is ugly. I know guns are tools, but my 44 is mostly going to be used for target shooting and looking nice on a shelf. My son and I might take it hog hunting, but that won't happen very often. I was thinking of buying a 629, but I'm reading just as many horror stories about them having problems as I did about Taurus revolvers failing. I've also heard that Colt Anacondas can be lacking in quality control, which is concerning given the price.

I'm admittedly vain when it comes to revolvers, so I want something that's attractive, but I don't want to waste money on a product that's going to give me and my kids headaches every 1000 rounds. If that's going to be the case, then I should just buy another Taurus M44, because at least they are nice to look at (I polished mine.). I'm not too worried about price, because even expensive guns are cheaper than nice American-made guitars. I'm just hoping for some unbiased opinions.

Thank you,
Jared

Edit: I should add that I already have a couple of SA revolvers, so I want the 44 to be a DA. I also like the full lug look. Weight doesn't really matter, because this will mostly be a range toy, and I'm a pretty big guy.

Get a S&W 29 of whatever barrel length and have a GUNSMITH work it over. I have a 629 4” worked over by Denny Riechards. It is amazing. I have a stock 629 3” that is unmodified and it SUCKS. The $500 for work and shipping turns a decent gun INTO a GREAT gun!!!

Also, Herretts Stocks checkered Jordan Troopers really help manage recoil. Read chapter 7 of “No Second Place Winner” by William Jordan for kool-aid/specs.

You'll love any one of them. I bought my Super Black Hawk .44 mag. in 81,and put thousands of rounds threw it. Shows a turn line on cyl. but locks up tight and is accurate
