I have searched the forums and haven't found this particular topic anywhere.

I recently got my dad's .22-250 along with dies, a few loaded rounds, and a bunch of brass. 4 boxes of the brass have a file-mark on the rim. I remember we marked the brass he was using for reduced loads like that, and he was adamant that it be kept separate and not used for full power loads ever again, but I don't remember why. Can anyone shed light on this?

Brass gets shorter, head to datun (shoulder) with reduced loads. Full power loads in that brass may cause brass to stretch, resulting in case separation. But may be avoided by alternating between reduced & maximun loads.

That's tickling the memory. I doubt he loaded them more than twice - time to do some measuring. Thanks.
