I am selling a firearm to a person tomorrow at a local FFL. I have lost the bill of sales to it. Just spent two hours trying to find it. Fun when that's the only bill of sales you can't find.

Anyway, the FFL has record of selling me the rifle. serial # and model, etc. Will the FFL be able to process the sale by calling the FFL that sold it to me? Or will they need to check and make sure it isn't stolen through the authorities? I don't want to ruin this deal, it would ruin two people's day.

You don't need paperwork to show to the ffl. I have sold a quite few guns in california and I have never had to show paperwork for them to the FFL. Mark

Amen to what railroader said. I have sold two guns to my local smith who is also an FFL, and he never asked about the bill of sale, or much of anything else. This guy sells a lot of guns, too. Things may be nutty here in the Golden State, but not that nutty.

Thanks everyone.
All my fears were not realized. The funniest thing was though. At the FFL (also a pawnshop) the buyer wanted to see the rifle before we went in to make the deal. Well, the owner came out (great guy) drug us inside. Seems that seeing a rifle in a parking lot with a bunch of young guys can scare people here in California:neener::evil:

For all those who don't live in California...I go to sign away my life, give a thumb print, and all my person info to the ffl. Imagine if you had to do this when selling a car or a tv...
