Semi-auto vs Pump: Home Defense.

Or not. What about clearing a stove pipe in the chamber of a semi? Problems happen with any equipment.
I've heard a lot more folks saying they've short stroked a pump than those saying they've had semi malfunctions

I know my Benelli that I bought in the early 90's has NEVER failed to perform exactly as it was designed to do, no matter what load I fed it

I also know I've never had a failure with the last 870 I bought around 1995, nor the previous 870 I owned in the 70's that was 20 years old then

Judging from the posts on this thread, operator error with pumps is the most common failure

The irony, of course, is that for my home I have a semi, one older than most the people on this board. It is also quite reliable.

But using both, some of the arguments are in now way valid. Speed of firing in a shotgun might be nice, but it also means more misses and an empty magazine. Game over. Doing so one handed is even less accurate.

Being worried about operating the shotgun after being wounded is arguing minutia in the weeds. Only when an arm is wounded would that even come up. By that point, your semi and its fast shooting has already failed you. And, one handed, you won't do any reloading.

In the short times involved here, a pump will do the job just fine.
