Serial number locations

I apologize if all of this info is elsewhere on the forum, but I have a couple of questions. I was doing an inventory of my firearms today and I can't find the serial numbers on two of my rifles.

One is a Marlin Model 39A. The other is a Winchester Model 67A, a rifle I bought when I was 14 years old. Both are .22 caliber rifles. I took both rifles apart (almost) and can not find any numbers. Does anyone have an idea where I should look to find them?

If they are pre '66 (or was it '68) there was no requirement for serial numbers.

I've a bolt action shotgun from my dad without serial numbers, it was made in the '50s.

I believe it was 68, and yes there was no requirement for serial numbers on long guns.

Hi. The GCA of 1968 made 'em mandatory. Not required prior to then.

The 67 probably doesn't have one. IIRC, the Marlin 39 should have one on the upper tang.

I did find the serial number on the 39A. It was on the upper tang. How I missed that, I don't know. Thanks.
