SGVGC THR Shoot in Southern California

Hey, where's the usual thread about the shoot on Sig Forums? Aren't we gonna get Eyon's play-by-play breakdown of each run? :D

i wonder if this is the longest ongoing post?

Well, part of the reason I started these group shoots was to be able to meet other THR members and get to know them in real life. I figured it was a good way to contribute to the forum that has helped me so much. Also, the shooting range in San Gabriel really is being threaten with a forced closure. It's been reported on the radio news reports as well as the local newspapers. All the employees know about it, as well as members of the gun club. There have been city council meetings about it, etc.

Last time I talked to the R.O. there, he said they are still trying to fight it but the details are a secret because they don't want the other side to know anything about it. When I started the monthly shoots, I honestly thought the range would be closed by now (although it is a pleasant surprise it is still open). Since then, I have managed to get to know some of the other forum members here much better, and they have posted to let me know about other local events, thus the extremely long thread.

Which reminds me about why this thread exists in the first place:

Next THR SGVGC Shoot will be Sunday, July 23 at 12:30 pm.

I changed the time to 12:30 so Black Majik can have an extra half hour of sleep before getting to the range :neener: .

Our armor plated swinging target is getting close to the end. Last time I shot it with my AR, I put a hole completely thru the center :what: . It's a small hole and the rest of the target still works, but it's time to retire that sucker with a bang, so to speak. I'm gonna try to destroy it with my Yugo Mauser, so you guys who have missed the last few shoots (you know who you are) try to make it and give me and BamBam-31 a hand.

Don't you mean you changed it to 12:30 so you and Mike can have an extra half hour to eat lunch? :neener:

Unfortunately, I can't make this month's shoot. I'm going to be at FTA's CCW class for the weekend of July 22nd & 23rd.

Have fun though and shoot some weeds for me!

Oh. I remember you mentioned July 22, but I didn't realize it was a two day class. Okay, just for you, and just this once, since I made a bit of a mistake here, I'll change the day to the next weekend:

Correction: Next THR shoot will be on July 30 at 12:30

BTW, those weeds were an accident. Yeah, that's it, an accident :uhoh: .

Hey BB, did you know about this?

http://shoot1919a4.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=79 :D

What I'm still amazed at it the amount of people that don't come out. We have some great groups of people that get together but it seems like there's still more that don't.

Not sure if I can make the 23rd as this coming Sunday is suppose to be our monthly shoot. I know the desert is going to be HOT in more then one way.

Benny! Back from the dead! Did you do the Tour de France or something? :D

I still cant believe how you absolutely ROCKED the classifier!

It's called luck, buddy. Don't expect me to do that ever again. Oh, and my $33 lesson from Saturday? New 10 round Glock mags mean MAJOR SUCKAGE for matches. Springs are too stiff for rapid reloads (less Travis Tomasie and more Mike Dumb-assie). That's why we had that "I'm gonna only load nine rounds for the classifier, since we only need five rounds." "Go eight." So I loaded seven each. ;)

Don't you mean you changed it to 12:30 so you and Mike can have an extra half hour to eat lunch?

Do NOT underestimate the power of lunch, Young Grasshopper.

Man, I goaltended a game on Friday where I my team was outshot 36-12 (so I'm doing my best Neo impersonation wearing 40 lbs. of goalie gear). Then I shoot the IPSC match all day in yesterday's 98 degree heat. Then I go airsofting all day today in similar temperatures. Add in chasing around my 17 mo. old, and that equals a very sore right rotator. I hope I heal up before the two hockey games I have on Tuesday....

If I was really back from the TdF now, it would mean that I was suspended for doping. :neener:

Yes, I've been riding with my triathlon club on the weekends and taking classes as well. I am now a NRA Certified Instructor; I've been taking the classes when they've been offered and they usually land on the same weekend as the shoots.

I've been following all the action, so I can't wait to get out there to shoot with y'all again.

I am now a NRA Certified Instructor;

Cool. I was asking if anyone knew what happened to you, but nobody did. Looking forward to shooting with you again.

I know the desert is going to be HOT in more then one way.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm a sissy-boy and I hate the heat :uhoh: . I'll have to pass on the 1919's this time, as cool as they are.

I'll get higher resolution pictures up sooner or later.

Uh, it's been 11 years since I shot IPSC, but back then the white targets would have been "hostages" or "no shoots" and you'd be penalized for hitting them. Has something in the rules changed since then? :)

Hey Marc,

You're correct, those no shoot are 10-pt penalties and reek havoc on the scores.... + the 10 pt penalties for the mikes (misses).

James cool pics man!

Nothing has changed. What happened was, it was that guy's first stage ever of his first time ever shooting IPSC and those two particular targets were a bit further away than the others on that stage (maybe 15 yards is my guess) and he somehow managed those five "head shots" on the "no shoots."

We remarked that although we knew it was an accident, it was kinda funny in that he probably couldn't have gotten those head shots if he tried. The fact that he did was mostly dumb luck and we teased him a bit about it. To turn the tables, Eyon took a picture of him with the targets as if he meant to do that.

Also, the picture helps to illustrate that you don't have to be a pistol expert to join us. As long as you are a safe, responsible adult and have a friendly disposition you are welcome.

You are right though, in that a picture like that demands an explanation.

IIRC, his first shot was a warning shot right by the right hostage's ear, accompanied by a "Get the hell down!" command. Well, they didn't, so he did what he had to do to complete the mission Jack Bauer style. :p

Those were the last two targets of the stage (and furthest out), so the shooter took a few extra shots just to make sure he got hits. Well, he got hits alright....

Pity him not. Overall, he scored exceptionally well anyways, even with the massacre.

I'm just posting to remind everyone that the shoot is this Sunday (7-30-06) at 12:30 pm. In addition to the usual suspects, I'm gonna bring out my Swiss K-31 since that thing hasn't been shot in a while. Only got one box of ammo for it left, might as well use it up. Also, my Yugo Mauser and CZ 452.

BTW, I just bought a SIG 225, but still have to start the DROS and 10 day wait, so it won't be available this time. Paul, can you bring yours to satisfy my newgunitis fix? ;)

Anyone else get any new toys, . . . uh, I mean guns?

I pick up my Les Baer today, so I'll bring it to break it in.

Mike, bring your Supertac! :D

OT:
Mike, we're gonna be discussing details pertaining to the Bruce Gray class in Sept, such as places to eat for dinner, suggestions etc...
Might wanna throw your $0.02 in also or keep updated in the thread.

Wow, that's some pretty cool hardware :) .

whyfore a shoot just before the first of the month instead of after?

Because I can't wait any longer. . . Do you know how long it's been since I've shot a gun :( ;) ?

BTW, did you manage to replace any of the guns you lost?

Mike, bring your Supertac!

July 30th will be the day "Supertac Returns!" :D

Will also bring a few other goodies that should interest you guys. ;)

BTW, thanx for the BGG update, Rich. What happened to Eyon?

Thank you to everyone who made it out this time. I don't know what was cooler, shooting the FAL or when Mike, Richard, and I were all shooting Les Baers at the same steel target! Paul, thanks for bringing the Sig 225 - that thing just feels so good in my hands. Benny, you forgot to wear your "I love my M1A" shirt!

Sorry guys about the armor plate being "out of order" but there will be a next time. Thanks again.

BB
