Does anyone know what the "real" shelf life of Break Free CLP is, or a way to tell when it should be discarded or is still useable by looking at it?

I found two bottles (The small 1 oz bottles) of the stuff that MUST be from my Army days because they're dated 1991 and 1994.

Also, is there a difference between the GI issued stuff and the stuff on the shelves at Cabela's?

Thanks.

I don't think it has a shelf life.
Just shake it up & use it.

Today's CLP is a different formula then the old military stuff.
Supposedly, the original military stuff contained a carcinogen of some sort.

So, don't drink it.

I keep mine in an old glass baby food bottle, so I can keep an eye on its current state

When left for a while it separates. I just give it a shake to mix it up before applying with an applicator. As long as it still blends into a homogenous liquid, I think it is still usable.

But it tastes so good! Nothing better on a boring afternoon in the barracks than a shot of a Break-Free.

Actually, this is all good news, folks. Because the stuff is pretty much unobtainium here in Alaska. In fact, MOST gun cleaning supplies, at least solvents and such, OTHer than Hoppe's 9, is unavailable up here And of course, it's a "Haz-Mat" so it can't be shipped at any price which means I can't buy it online.

I'm now running out of the stuff I had pre Sandy Hook shooting. Starting to get bleak. And that's not even the ammo.

Make your own.
Things like Ed's Red and such.
Do a web search for home made gun cleaners.
And don't forget the cleaning and lube stuff from your local auto parts and hardware store.
I can't remember the last time I actually got ready made gun cleaning stuff.
And nothing has dissolved yet.
